MOHNTON, Pa. - Notes from final, round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 31st annual NHRA Keystone Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Jay Schonberger No Time, Now #2 I/A Index: 8.71
Right Lane: Dave Wolkwitz No Time, Now #1 BB/AM Index: 7.40

2:02 p.m. - Weather conditions: air temperature 59 degrees, relative humidity 61 percent, barometer 29.67 inches, adjusted altitude 799 feet, track temperature 66 degrees.

When the light turned green, Schonberger took off down the track while Wolkwitz started, shook and stopped, then just sat there. At about 330 feet, Schonberger's car got loose went sideways and crossed the center line. Schonberger pulled the chutes and coasted down the track and crossing the finish line in Wolkwitz's lane. As Schonberger coasted, Wolkwitz suddenly hit the throttle on his car and started down the track. When he got to the end of the track, Wolkwitz hit the brakes hard to avoid hitting Schonberger's car. Wolkwitz's Corvette went sideways, then rolled over onto its roof. The Corvette continued to roll and came to a rest right-side up, on its tires. Neither driver got an ET for this run because Schonberger crossed the finish line in Wolkwitz's lane.
