Notes from round 1 of the Pro Stock Shootout at Woodburn Dragstrip's 14th annual Pro Stock Invitational listing lane,
driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and
position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 12.065/79.15, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.958/200.49, Was #6
Right Lane: Mike Corvo Jr Runs 7.046/198.06, Now #1; Best prior run: 15.794/52.92, Was #12
5:11 p.m. Current weather conditions: 102 degrees, 25 percent relative humidity, the 29.72 barometer
inches, with a track temperature of 135 degrees. This is the first "official" round of this Chicago-style
event. All the racers will run this session, and then the 7 p.m. session, and the racers with the two quickest e.t.'s
will race for the championship. There will also be a run-off between the racers with the third and fourth quickest
e.t.'s for third place.
Wilson has trouble before the 60-foot mark and clicks it early. Corvo with a good
baseline in this weather.
Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 7.291/194.59, Now #3; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 7.044/199.20, Now #1; No Prior Run
Two of the Mopar cars duke it out here, with Johnson getting there in front of a tire-shaking
Morgan.
Left Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 11.001/80.29, Now #4; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 12.963/68.00, Now #6; No Prior Run
Both teams were too aggressive and they both click it early.
Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.967/200.00, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 7.042/198.32, Now #2; No Prior Run
That's more like it. WJ with low e.t. of the round. For Whisnant, just getting down the track is a
victory. WJ was 1.055 at 60 feet and Whisnant was 1.060.
Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.965/200.40, Now #1; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 12.664/76.25, Now #9; No Prior Run
The points leader with a typical great run. 1.058 short time for Anderson. Alderman out of it
early.
Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 7.142/169.77, Now #6; No Prior Run
KJ was supposed to run Lastor, but Lastor had transmission trouble and was forced to withdraw. Johnson
shuts it off early after a 1.045 60-foot time, the best of the round. 5:22 p.m.
