Pro Stock Bike Qualifying Notes, Session #2
Fri, 1 Aug 2003, 10:17 PM
Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 16th
annual FRAM-Autolite NHRA Nationals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round,
position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to
run:
Left Lane: Ryan Schnitz Runs 7.501/173.14, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.483/175.52,
Was #20
Right Lane: Jerry Jankanish Runs 7.479/171.82, Now #19; Best prior run:
8.314/151.80, Was #24
6:47 PM Current weather conditions: 72 degrees, 52 percent relative humidity, the
barometer 29.97 inches. Treble is on the pole and Straus is on the bump to start the session. No
help for the first pair.
Left Lane: Redell Harris Runs 7.431/177.09, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.444/176.51,
Was #17
Right Lane: Matt Guidera No Time, Now #24; Best prior run: 8.201/156.68, Was #24
Another pair that's not in the show after the first session. Guidera was a no show
on the Buell. Harris is still outside the 7.40 bump.
Left Lane: Michael Phillips Runs 7.239/183.52, Now #4; Best prior run:
7.383/177.16, Was #15
Right Lane: Michael Lozano Runs 7.781/163.37, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.967/157.83,
Was #23
Phillips moves way up into the field. The riders are facing about an eighteen mph
head wind at this point. Lozano gets no help.
Left Lane: GT Tonglet Runs 7.324/176.90, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.379/188.67, Was
#15
Right Lane: Angelle Savoie Runs 9.097/73.57, Now #23; Best prior run: 7.891/125.31,
Was #23
Angelle slows again around half track and won't make the field in the second
session. GT picks up on the Harley but still isn't up to form.
Left Lane: Jay Matthews Runs 7.459/178.38, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.356/180.02,
Was #15
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.280/182.45, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.482/152.09,
Was #20
We've waiting for Angelle and her bike to be pushed off the top end of the track.
She had gotten very close to the wall and slowed quickly, not making the turnout. Antron Brown
is out to hold up the honor of the US Army bike team and he makes a pretty good pass. Matthews
slows a tenth from his first hit and is now on the bump.
Left Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 7.366/177.39, Now #15; Best prior run: 7.340/180.52,
Was #15
Right Lane: Steve Johnson No Time, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.470/175.16, Was #19
Johnson leaves before the tree is activated and he gets no time. Reuter slows from
his first.
Left Lane: Sean Conner No Time, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.279/181.91, Was #9
Right Lane: Lloyd Straus Runs 7.418/177.11, Now #17; Best prior run: 7.405/174.62,
Was #17
Conner's run was dq'd as there was something wrong with the timing system. I don't
think he ran a 4.28! Straus still isn't in the show.
Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 7.250/176.65, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.263/185.61,
Was #8
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 7.273/180.52, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.337/182.65,
Was #14
Both riders improve this time.
Left Lane: Reggie Showers Runs 7.200/181.08, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.260/185.31,
Was #8
Right Lane: Blaine Hale Runs 7.266/181.76, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.323/180.36, Was
#13
Showers moves all the way to the #2 spot. Hale just misses the top half.
Left Lane: Mike Berry Runs 7.207/183.52, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.250/189.90, Was
#7
Right Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.323/179.78, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.312/181.50,
Was #13
Camarena slows from his first hit but Berry is now #3.
Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 7.206/183.42, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.234/189.84, Was
#5
Right Lane: Fred Collis Runs 7.281/184.77, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.241/179.04, Was
#7
Gann picks up .03 and Collis finds that, plus a little more. He slows .04 but picks
up 5 mph from his first run.
Left Lane: Geno Scali Runs 7.206/184.75, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.220/186.23, Was
#5
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.333/187.00, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.179/181.89,
Was #1
Treble looked like the bike jumped stright into the air right at the hit. That was
bizarre? He remains #1. Scali moves up two spots in the show. That's final pair for session
two.
