The 38th annual Pepsi Nightfire Nationals at Firebird Raceway is quite a magnet for drag racers in
the western United States, especially the nitro funny cars. With driver Mendy Fry piloting their
240-mile per hour racecar, McCain's Bomb Squad is heading for Boise, Idaho again this year to race
against some of the finest nostalgia funny cars in the business.
McCain's Bomb Squad grabbed low qualifier honors at Sacramento Raceway's Funny Car Fever this year,
a runner up finish at Famoso Raceway's DragFest and set quick elapsed time at the recent Las Vegas
Speed Spectacular. Mendy Fry and McCain's Bomb Squad are ready with a new engine combination setup
for the high-altitude Boise track along with nearly twenty other nitro funny cars for this NHRA Hot
Rod Heritage Series race.
Prior to the race, McCain's Bomb Squad 1973 Plymouth Duster nitro funny car will be on display at
the Key Bank location in Eagle, ID, the Official Bank of Firebird Raceway. Then on Friday August
13, McCain's Bomb Squad will head to the staging lanes at the track for Nitro Jam Professional
Qualifying scheduled for 7:00 PM, the second and final session is on Saturday at 1:00 PM with the
first round of eliminations for the sixteen-car field beginning at 7:PM Saturday night. The Nitro
finals are scheduled for 5:00 PM on Sunday evening under what has been described as perfect weather
for the entire weekend.
The next event for both Mendy Fry and McCain's Bomb Squad is Cruzin' for Life taking place in
Downtown Santa Maria, California on September 26 & 27. Mendy will be the Grand Marshall of the
event and McCain's Bomb Squad nitro funny car will be a featured attraction. The annual Cruzin' for
Life event, at Santa Maria Fairpark, supports the local Marian Cancer Center.
