POMONA, Calif. - Results of round 1 eliminations in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals:

12:01 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 48 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,167 feet, track temperature 90 degrees.

Gaines has qualified eight times here but this is his first round win. He runs Connolly down and takes the win. V. Gaines' MOV: 0.0125 seconds (approximately 4 feet).

Of course the first thing up is a staging duel between the pair. Horrible light for Koretsky so maybe he staging duel might not have been right for him? Also, his car is loose and Smith motors away for a right lane wine.

Johns becomes the 67th different driver that Yates has faced. Johns is late at the hit but with Jenkins power it made no difference as he cards low ET of the round to this point.

Interesting statistic for Line. He's already 42-22 for his career...of one season. This is the 241 time that KJ has qualified for an NHRA event. Just a note of possible interest. There is a news conference scheduled for after the Pro session today. It's rumored that WJ will announce his retirement after next season. Close race but it's Line with the win. Jason Line's MOV: 0.0103 seconds (approximately 3 feet).

This is the 15th time Haas has qualified #16 and he's never won a round from here. That streak continues and Anderson goes low for the round.

Both lights were mediocre but they were even at the start. Krisher was about .02 quicker and takes the win. Ron Krisher's MOV: 0.0072 seconds (approximately 2 feet). In round two Anderson has choice over Smith; Morgan over Edwards; Gaines over Line and Johns over Krisher.
