CLERMONT, Ind. - Results of round 3 eliminations in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 51st annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals:

7:54 p.m. A couple competitors have gotten this far without incurring any CIC penalties, but most have given up a few hundredths and a few have gone deeply in debt, all in search of an elusive U.S. Nationals championship.

Tony Stephenson has a 0.05 CIC penalty; Dale Spencer has no CIC penalty. Stephenson wanted to win here, the last national event he could claim, because it pays more points for a win - six rounds instead of the usual five. However, he was late on the tree and all that strategy is meaningless. Dale Spencer's MOV: 0.0381 seconds (approximately 9 feet).

Glen Treadwell has no CIC penalty; Mike Nahan has a 0.06 CIC penalty. Treadwell goes to the quarterfinals with no penalty, Nahan going red.

Fred Allen has no CIC penalty; Jeff Taylor has a 0.11 CIC penalty. Allen spun the tires hard and had to backpedal on the launch. By then, Taylor was out of sight and Allen could not catch him.

Neither driver has a CIC penalty. Tanksley had the better of two bad lights and Frech took a permanent 0.01 hit in a losing effort. Joey Tanksley's MOV: 0.0147 seconds (approximately 3 feet) and he earned a 0.08 CIC to get it.

Vinnie Deceglie has a 0.09 CIC penalty; Al Ackerman has a 0.10 CIC penalty. Red light, Deceglie saves the rest of his index for tomorrow.

Tomorrow it will be Spencer vs Treadwell, Tanksley vs Taylor, Mihovetz vs Stufflebeam, and Deceglie vs Bailey.
