ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the 13th annual NHRA Revell Nationals, listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, (best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run):

Left Lane: Gary Scelzi Runs 4.538/303.84 Now # 1, (Best prior run: 4.656/273.30 Was # 6)
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 4.622/314.57 Now # 5, (Best prior run: 4.678/312.50 Was # 8)

8:15 PM Scelzi keeps the candles lit all the way through the quarter-mile this time and takes over the number one spot. Kalitta steps up.

Left Lane: Kenny Bernstein Runs 4.585/319.71 Now # 2, (Best prior run: 4.586/318.80 Was # 2)
Right Lane: Tony Schumacher Runs 4.724/306.64 Now #12, (Best prior run: 4.738/302.01 Was #12)

Bernstein repeats his afternoon pass, and Schumacher picks up a little, but does not improve his position.

Left Lane: Eddie Hill Runs 7.096/110.26 Now # 6, (Best prior run: 4.626/309.06 Was # 6)
Right Lane: Steve Smith No Time Now #16, (Best prior run: 4.809/308.74 Was #16)

Smith breaks on the starting line. Hill starts to mix up the cylinders, and then loses his engine.

Left Lane: Connie Kalitta Runs 10.862/ 83.61 Now #11, (Best prior run: 4.709/308.85 Was #10)
Right Lane: Cory McClenathan Runs 4.635/277.60 Now # 7, (Best prior run: 4.965/209.20 Was #17)

Kalitta goes out about 200 feet and then clicks it off. Cory was on a really good pass until around 1000 feet and then the engine starts eating itself up. Sparklers and green flames coming out the header pipes. We are down for a clean-up.

Left Lane: Bob Vandergriff Runs 4.640/316.01 Now # 8, (Best prior run: 4.668/285.80 Was # 9)
Right Lane: Bruce Sarver Runs 15.619/ 66.23 Now #19, (Best prior run: 6.411/127.38 Was #19)

Sarver gets about 200 feet off the starting line when he blisters the hides and clicks it off. Vandergriff moves into the top half of the field.

Left Lane: Joe Amato Runs 14.125/ 72.20 Now # 4, (Best prior run: 4.605/318.13 Was # 4)
Right Lane: Larry Dixon Runs 4.631/311.41 Now # 3, (Best prior run: 4.586/311.31 Was # 3)

Amato is up in smoke immediately. No help for Dixon, but he gives it a good shot.

Left Lane: Shelly Anderson No Time Now #20, (Best prior run: 11.177/ 68.40 Was #20)
Right Lane: Don Lampus Runs 4.752/309.38 Now #15, (Best prior run: 4.760/305.39 Was #15)

Shelly goes about 200 feet and then loses an engine. It just went silent and she coasted to a stop. Lampus improves a little, but not enough to move up in the program.

Left Lane: Cristen Powell Runs 9.484/ 76.65 Now #10, (Best prior run: 4.698/295.46 Was #10)
Right Lane: Randy Parks Runs 7.196/109.02 Now #16, (Best prior run: 4.780/304.15 Was #16)

Cristen starts to lose traction and then pedals it, goes back up in smoke and pedals it two more times. She finally aborts the run. Parks goes up in smoke around the 330-foot mark and lifts.

Left Lane: Mike Dunn Runs 11.503/ 76.90 Now # 9, (Best prior run: 4.644/309.70 Was # 9)

Dunn is the next to last car tonight, and he loses traction around the 200-foot mark and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Jim Head Runs 9.778/ 93.81 Now #14, (Best prior run: 4.744/309.38 Was #14)

Head follows suit goes about 200 feet and smoke the tires, and clicks it off. That is it for tonight. Scelzi sits atop the heap and Parks holds on to the sixteen spot with a 4.780.
