Top Alcohol Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, South Central Division, event at Texas Motorplex listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Nancy Matter Runs 6.441/238.05, Now #2
Right Lane: Kebin Kinsley Runs 5.691/252.24, Now #1

6:07 p.m. Matter's car ran well off its potential again, the early numbers off the mark. They had similar problems at Houston, but could get it figured out before tomorrow evening. Meanwhile, Kinsley made a strong, straight pass, right down the groove.

Kebin Kinsley's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.540, 660ft-3.757/203.65mph, 1,000ft-4.803

Left Lane: Burl Brown Runs 5.894/232.35, Now #2
Right Lane: Ron Morrison Runs 6.007/245.54, Now #3

Two good first runs, but Morrison's car was way out next to the wall, kicking up dust, and then the chutes were late. No problem, this is a long dragstrip.

Left Lane: Steve Burck Runs 5.869/240.04, Now #3
Right Lane: Steve Harker Runs 5.620/256.21, Now #1

Harker was first in Division 4 and fifth in the nation last year. The news today is that both nof his daughters may make laps in this car later this year.

Harker backed all the way up to the water and did a second burnout after his first try shook mand produced no tire smoke - that tactic may catch on because he followed with a strong run. Burck made a good run, but nowhere close to Harker's.

Steve Harker's incremental times: 60ft-0.971 sec., 330ft-2.513, 660ft-3.715/206.61mph, 1,000ft-4.746

Left Lane: Jimmy Jones Runs 5.631/258.32, Now #2

Last car, and a little wiggle about 800 feet out probably cost Jones the #1 spot. Lee Callaway was back by the starting line, watching after electing to skip this session.

Jimmy Jones' incremental times: 60ft-0.988 sec., 330ft-2.527, 660ft-3.732/206.07mph, 1,000ft-4.761.
