CECIL, Ga. -- Racing is complete at South Georgia Motorsports Park's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. The three-day race, which kicked off on Friday, culminated with Top Alcohol Dragster pilot Artie Allen and Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Mick Snyder making their first trip of the year to the winner's circle. Both men were the No. 1 qualifiers in their classes. Allen beat Dan Lucas, Cumming, Ga., in the opening round of eliminations and was unopposed in the semifinals. In the final round the Jacksonville, Fla., racer ticked off his quickest pass of the weekend at 5.573 seconds, 254.57 mph against Cherissa Griffis of Gainesville, Fla., who ran 6.794 seconds at 151.48 mph. Demotte, Ind., resident Snyder is the reigning North Central division champion and this was his first divisional race of the year. He had a bye in the first round and knocked off Melinda Green-King of Norfolk, Va., in the semis. In the final round he faced off against the defending Top Alcohol Funny Car national champion Bob Newberry. Snyder's 5.836-second, 235.19 mph effort was enough to cover Newberry's 5.871-second 254.18 mph pass. In Comp Eliminator, Bo Butner took the win over his teammate, and defending national champ, Jeff Taylor when Taylor red-lighted in the final. Both racers are from Floyds Knobs, Ind. Dennis Nelson, Hugo, Minn., scored the win in Super Stock and was joined in the winner's circle by Stock Eliminator winner Chris Puzycki of Malabar, Fla. Jeff Strickland, Red Bay, Ala., won in Super Comp; Jason Kenny, Kingston, Ont., earned the win in Super Gas; Doug Hughes, Cocoa, Fla., win in Super Street; and the Top Sportsman winner was Ronnie Davis, Commerce, Ga.
