Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session #1
By Larry Sullivan

BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Joe Swindoll Runs 6.802/204.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Ronnie Humphrey Runs 6.736/204.79, Now #1

2:50 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 76 degrees, relative humidity 72 percent, barometer 29.52 inches, adjusted altitude 2,487 feet, track temperature 91 degrees.

Haven't seen either of these two drivers this year - in fact, it's Swindoll's first outing, period.

No obvious problems in either lane, but Swindoll was well off the competitive pace and Humphrey's may not hold up.

Left Lane: Mark Buehring Runs 7.047/178.83, Now #4
Right Lane: Dave Connolly Runs 6.750/205.19, Now #2

In case you haven't heard, Connolly is subbing for Dave Northrop, in Ken Koretsky's Nitro Fish Dodge.

Connolly made a smooth, straight pass, but that time probably won't get the job done.

Left Lane: Rodger Brogdon Runs 6.782/204.26, Now #3
Right Lane: Erica Enders Runs 6.849/200.47, Now #5

Brogdon is running Gagnazzi power this year - might have a chance.

Again, no obvious problems, but the numbers may not get either one in the field, especially the twelve-car provisional field.

Left Lane: Justin Humphreys Runs 6.696/206.20, Now #1
Right Lane: David Beckley Runs 6.866/178.64, Now #7

Humphreys made a good run, the first driver into the sixties.

Left Lane: Steve Spiess Runs 6.752/205.47, Now #5
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.710/205.54, Now #2

Spiess' run didn't work out as well as Humphreys' run. Hammonds moved into the #2 spot on a clean run.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.691/207.02, Now #1
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.737/204.42, Now #5

WJ also ran in the sixties and posted a big speed.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.746/205.79, Now #7
Right Lane: Johnny Gray Runs 6.699/206.13, Now #3

Good run by Gray, a 0.994 60-foot time and no viosible problems.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.716/206.20, Now #6
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.689/206.13, Now #1

This is the last race for the Wiley-X sponsorship and Yates plans to park the car after this race if nothing else materializes.

Krisher put the pieces together to move to the head of the list. Ron Krisher's incremental times: 60ft-0.991 sec., 330ft-2.795, 660ft-4.296/164.95 mph, 1,000ft-5.596.

Left Lane: Rickie Jones Runs 6.730/205.88, Now #7
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 6.735/205.76, Now #8

Both were over a second in the first 60 feet...

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.678/206.64, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.698/206.51, Now #5

The 60-foot times in the left lane appear to be off a bit - KJ's posted as a 1.030, but his launch looked as crisp as Edwards', at 0.999. Kurt Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-1.030 sec., 330ft-2.790, 660ft-4.290/164.77 mph, 1,000ft-5.587.

Left Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.694/206.70, Now #4
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.713/206.13, Now #9

Anderson was off his usual pace, but the car came on hard on the top end.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.681/206.23, Now #3
Right Lane: Jason Line Runs 6.679/206.32, Now #2

AJ posted the low 60-foot time of the round - in the left lane! Allen Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.986 sec., 330ft-2.787, 660ft-4.289/164.45 mph, 1,000ft-5.588. Line wasn't much slower early in the run and was slightly quicker on the top half. Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.996 sec., 330ft-2.795, 660ft-4.293/165.50 mph, 1,000ft-5.588.

After one session, KJ leads the way at 6.678 and Jim Yates is on the 12-car bump spot at 6.716.
