POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, 40th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, amount over/under index this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time & over/under Index, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Brett Brown Runs 9.695/0.495, Now #39; G/EA Index: 9.20, Prior Best: 9.671/0.471, Was #38
Right Lane: Tom Brown Runs 8.630/-0.360, Now #37; F/ED Index: 8.99, Prior Best: 28.000/19.010, Was #41
5:03 p.m. We've had a few showers but we're now into Comp. Weather conditions: air temperature 60 degrees, relative humidity 67 percent, barometer 28.98 inches, adjusted altitude 1,389 feet, track temperature 66 degrees.
No help for the opening pair.
Left Lane: Ross Wilson Runs 13.212/4.062, Now #31; D/SMA Index: 9.15, Prior Best: 8.694/-0.456, Was #31
Right Lane: Randy Jones Runs 8.175/-0.425, Now #28; A/SMA Index: 8.60, Prior Best: 8.115/-0.485, Was #28
Wilson gets loose and shuts off way early. Jones loses a nickel from his first hit.
Left Lane: Charlie Stewart No Time, Now #14; F/EA Index: 9.01, Prior Best: 8.403/-0.607, Was #14
Right Lane: Tom Mettler Runs 7.678/-0.402, Now #10; PST Index: 8.08, Prior Best: 7.436/-0.644, Was #10
Stewart launched and the pulled over towards the wall in the left lane. Mettler falls way off from his first hit.
Left Lane: Ed Sigmon Runs 8.682/-0.578, Now #18; C/SR Index: 9.26, Prior Best: 8.674/-0.586, Was #18
Right Lane: Doug Lambeck Runs 8.689/-0.601, Now #16; E/SMA Index: 9.29, Prior Best: 8.692/-0.598, Was #17
Lambeck is about the first to improve and that wasn't by much. Sigmon gets no help.
Left Lane: Tom Huggins Runs 7.123/-0.617, Now #13; B/A Index: 7.74, Prior Best: 7.142/-0.598, Was #17
Right Lane: Michael Stone Runs 7.359/-0.581, Now #20; C/ED Index: 7.94, Prior Best: 7.368/-0.572, Was #22
Both cars improve in this session.

Gillette has problems and he shuts off way early. Hadford slows slightly from his first hit.

Neff has problems and for the second time he slows early. Snyder picks up a tenth and is in the show at #25.

This just isn't the track at the moment for a AA/AA. Ellis gets loose early and that's all she wrote. DePalma slows from round 1.

Right Lane: Raymond Martin Runs 7.849/-0.601, Now #18; K/AA Index: 8.45, Prior Best: 7.874/-0.576, Was #21
Kaplan was all over the left lane and STILL runs .809 under the index! He goes to the top and Martin picks up a couple of spots.
Left Lane: Gary Anderson Runs 8.786/-0.674, Now #6; H/A Index: 9.46, Prior Best: 8.809/-0.651, Was #8
Right Lane: Art Hodges Runs 7.380/-0.620, Now #13; C/A Index: 8.00, No Prior Run
The times are really picking up now. Hodges makes his first hit count and is in the top half of the show. Anderson picks up two spots to #6.
Left Lane: Joe Mozeris Runs 7.149/-0.361, Now #29; B/ED Index: 7.51, Prior Best: 7.024/-0.486, Was #29
Right Lane: Gary Chomiski Runs 7.615/-0.465, Now #33; PST Index: 8.08, Prior Best: 18.177/10.097, Was #42
Mozeris hangs on to the field but Chomiski is not in after two hits.
Left Lane: Brian Self Runs 7.447/-0.633, Now #9; PST Index: 8.08, Prior Best: 7.434/-0.646, Was #9
Right Lane: Tom Tucker Runs 8.135/-0.645, Now #10; F/A Index: 8.78, Prior Best: 8.239/-0.541, Was #25
Tucker makes a big move and goes into the top half and picking up fifteen spots. Self remains #9.
Left Lane: Sal Biondo Runs 7.941/-0.589, Now #21; B/EA Index: 8.53, Prior Best: 7.983/-0.547, Was #25
Right Lane: Clint Sallee Runs 9.420/2.030, Now #32; B/D Index: 7.39, Prior Best: 6.913/-0.477, Was #32
Sallee remains on the bump and Biondo picks up for positions in the field.

Carter spun the tires hard and has to shut it down. Morrison got no time in the first round and doesn't get much help here.

Right Lane: Mike Willoughby Runs 7.751/-0.469, Now #33; PSTA Index: 8.22, Prior Best: 7.770/-0.450, Was #35
Deceglie just about duplicates his first run but loses mph to 210.83. Willoughby goes .469 under but still can't crack the field.

Nice runs for both cars. Mihovetz goes from the bottom of the show to #2. Barcelon slows slightly.

Mikel gets a single and just about duplicates his first pass. That's all for the second round of Comp Eliminator.
