NORWALK, Ohio -- On the heels of their successful inaugural Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals last June, Grand Bend Motorplex continues to undergo major improvements to help solidify its future. General Manager Bob Fuller confirmed off-season improvements will be completed in time for June’s race. “Currently, our seating is 10,000 and will soon be expanded to 14,000,” confirmed Fuller. “We just bought 4,000 new seats and will be installing them this winter. Other improvements include a second 30-foot wide pit road and seeding of another seven acres in the pits. This will increase our pit area to 740 pit spots, sized 22 feet. by 100 feet. This will make things much easier for those attending the 2nd Annual Mopar Parts Canadian Nationals, June 1-3, 2001. We are also enlarging the parking lot behind the campground, which now has 400 campsites.” Other improvements to Grand Bend include drain tiling the pits, additional speakers, pit lights and fencing. More asphalt will be laid in Spring 2001. With a total acreage of 407 acres, a soon to be 14,000 seating capacity and a true pit area of 740 spots, Grand Bend Motorplex will become Canada’s largest, dedicated dragstrip.
“I applaud the improvements Grand Bend is making to their facility,” stated
IHRA President Bill Bader. “We had a meeting following this year’s race to
determine what improvements needed to be made. They reacted positively and
immediately began working on the 2001 race. Grand Bend Motorplex is
committed to building the finest drag racing facility in Canada for IHRA
racers and fans.”
