Left Lane: Pat Herold Runs 6.962/198.82, Now #32; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Bill Shorts Runs 8.453/104.87, Now #33; Best prior run: 6.977/197.08, Was #32

6:49 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 60 percent, barometer 29.25 inches, adjusted altitude 1,895 feet, track temperature 81 degrees.

Line improves but can't break into the field. Pawuk gets in the 15th spot for now.

Right Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 6.807/203.68, Now #25; Best prior run: 6.809/203.34, Was #26

Cuadra had a good sixty foot time, a .989, then had problems on the top end. No help for Haas.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 14.422/58.73, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.798/203.25, Was #21
Right Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.782/203.61, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.805/203.77, Was #24

Johnson has problems early and shuts down.

Coughlin makes a great pass and jumps all the way to the third spot. Whisnant improves and moves up a few notches. Smith is now on the bump with a 6.783.

Connolly improves and gets in the top half of the field. No help for Yates.

Johns gets in the field and puts Carr on the bump.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 11.532/76.67, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.770/204.35, Was #14
Right Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 6.783/203.00, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.788/202.82, Was #19

Schmidt shakes the tires off the line, makes a hard move to the right and has to abort the run. Daniels improves but not enough.

Left Lane: Ron Krisher No Time, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.766/204.54, Was #11
Right Lane: Rickie Smith No Time, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.783/203.74, Was # 17

The rain started falling before Krisher and Smith completed their burnouts and qualifying came to a halt. The rain continued off and on for about 30 minutes, then started coming down heavier before the decision was made to pull the plug on the remaining qualifying runs. 8:17 p.m.
