By Darryl Jackman

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Second annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 13.309/60.69, Now #2
Right Lane: Zach Barklage Runs 6.517/218.76, Now #1

The first of the Pro Cars are coming out of the archway. Torkelson gets loose about 200 feet out and the car dives towards the center stripe. Barklage gets almost to half track and has to haul is ride back into the center of the lane when it dives towards the wall.

Right Lane: Zach Barklage Runs 6.517/218.76, Now #1

Left Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 9.786/113.32, Now #3
Right Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 6.434/218.19, Now #1

Patterson was in and out of the loud pedal before 60 feet. Another jump, this time towards the left guardrail. Critchley sounded like he was spinning the tires hard.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 7.411/137.30, Now #4
Right Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 6.362/220.80, Now #1

Jenkins with the cleanest pass so far and takes the top spot. Smith was quick down low but fell off in the middle of the track and clicked it.

Left Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.350/223.06, Now #1
Right Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.450/220.84, Now #4

Stott takes the top spot away from Jenkins with a straight, clean pass. Ashley was with right with Stott all the way down the track.

Left Lane: Lee Smith Runs 6.674/217.39, Now #7
Right Lane: John Scialpi Runs 6.544/213.27, Now #6

The drivers seem to be getting the handle on the track. This pair is not quite as quick but both were right in the middle of the lane.

Left Lane: Johnny Rocca Runs 6.404/220.12, Now #3
Right Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.630/210.64, Now #8

Lots of black smoke from Radford's car. Rocca with another straight pass.

Left Lane: Dan Vogt Runs 6.752/214.45, Now #10
Right Lane: Bill Kuhlmann Runs 7.307/138.17, Now #11

Kuhlamn left hard but it sounded like the car ran through the clutch. Vogt gets a good baseline but it's going to take a low more to make the eight car show.

Left Lane: Bill Hill Runs 6.690/211.83, Now #10
Right Lane: Andy Neyer Runs 11.428/74.73, Now #15

Something goes South on Neyer's Vette and the car is silent before half track. Hill makes a full pass but falls short of the field. We has sixteen cars in the first round of qualifying and it takes a 6.630 to make the field. Stott on the pole and Radford on the bump.
