By Darryl Jackman

LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Modified at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Second annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Bill Kuhlmann Runs 6.405/217.46, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.307/138.17, Was #17

Kuhlmann opens the final session of Pro Mod for the weekend. Kuhlmann makes his best pass of the weekend and makes the field. The bad news is that his qualifying spot in on the bump.

Left Lane: Randy Hagerty Runs 6.474/219.58, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.525/219.51, Was #13
Right Lane: Wayne Torkelson Runs 6.576/200.98, Now #14; Best prior run: 6.935/172.25, Was #17

Another pair outside the field. This time there's no happy ending as neither driver can make the show.

Left Lane: John Scialpi Runs 7.777/127.87, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.483/215.03, Was #13
Right Lane: Dan Vogt Runs 13.177/72.54, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.706/214.11, Was #17

Vogt makes a dive towards the center of the track and has to shut it down. Scialpi had a good leave but had to lift further down track. I couldn't see what happened.

Left Lane: Zach Barklage No Time, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.456/214.86, Was #10
Right Lane: Bill Hill Runs 6.479/185.82, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.690/211.83, Was #16

Barklage was all over the left lane so he decided to use some of Hill's lane as well. No time or speed for Barklage for crossing the centerline. It appeared that Hill saw Barklage coming and lifted at least once.

Left Lane: Troy Critchley Runs 9.340/95.36, Now #10; Best prior run: 6.433/218.51, Was #9
Right Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.377/218.97, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.666/174.32, Was #16

Critchley almost crossed into Smith's lane just as Barklage did. Critchley didn't cross but he was forced to call the run off. Smith is the second Pro Mod to bump into the field in this session. That means Kuhlmann will not make the field.

Left Lane: Dennis Radford Runs 6.556/213.27, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.396/227.73, Was #8
Right Lane: Lee Smith Runs 6.443/220.33, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.465/222.18, Was #12

Radford was already in from a prior run but Smith will be packing the trailer.

Left Lane: Andy Neyer Runs 6.457/214.31, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.379/225.00, Was #7
Right Lane: Johnny Rocca Runs 7.973/121.09, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.376/220.91, Was #5

Rocca's Merc just made a beeline for the center as soon as he hit the pedal. He horsed it back but moved again and he shut off. Neyer ignored the whole thing a makes a clean pass.

Left Lane: Mike Ashley Runs 6.581/189.18, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.342/221.52, Was #4
Right Lane: Mitch Stott Runs 6.396/221.16, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.298/224.81, Was #3

Ashley is the next racer to be all over the lane. The speed shows he lifted early. Stott is off a tenth from his best.

Left Lane: Shannon Jenkins Runs 7.830/97.97, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.261/222.99, Was #1
Right Lane: Thomas Patterson Runs 6.317/219.72, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.273/223.02, Was #2

Jenkins was a little loose and shut off early. Patterson makes a nice run but can't catch up with Jenkins. This is how qualifying will end for the AMS Pro Mods.
