5:02 PM Bernstein has won the championship and would like to be the final winner in Top Fuel for the Winston Series. He has a 3-0 lead on Dunn in head to head competition. It's a tire smoking dual for the first 60 feet. Dunn hammers it again and is up in smoke again. Bernstein has a little more momentum, let's the car settle down, and hammers it again to run on down the track for the win. Dunn watches Bernstein disappear into the twilight and shuts his engine down for the year. The end of a great season. Hard to believe that in just a few weeks we'll be back here to start the 2002 season. It'll be a new season with lots of changes not the least of which will be a new series sponsor. For the moment let's thank R.J. Reynolds for a fantastic 27 years.
