By Michael L. Jex

No Major Changes

POMONA, Calif. - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Pro Stock Bike at the 35th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Rob Korn Runs 8.043/155.04, Now #20; Best prior run: 7.961/156.48, Was #20
Right Lane: Chris Reuter Runs 7.624/174.87, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.490/177.32, Was #14

3:30 PM Last chance for the bikes not already in the program. The bubble is currently Brian DeLong's 7.526. Korn's Harley has yet to run in the 7.80's, but he should be commended for all the effort that camp is making to make the motor faster.

Left Lane: Brian Ayers Runs 7.443/176.79, Now #13; Best prior run: 7.504/176.93, Was #15
Right Lane: Gary Tonglet Runs 7.519/172.63, Now #12; Best prior run: 7.412/178.59, Was #12

Nice move up for Ayers, who left several seconds after Tonglet so he could hear his engine and shift changes better.

Left Lane: Fred Camarena Runs 7.476/176.40, Now #14; Best prior run: 7.478/172.52, Was #14
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 7.335/179.73, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.237/185.23, Was #2

Brown spun and shook the tire, costing at least a tenth of a second on that run.

Left Lane: Joe DeSantis Runs 7.394/175.59, Now #10; Best prior run: 7.393/176.70, Was #10
Right Lane: Greg Underdahl Runs 7.332/178.54, Now #6; Best prior run: 7.344/181.52, Was #6

Left Lane: Brian DeLong Runs 7.955/131.36, Now #16; Best prior run: 7.526/175.82, Was #16
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 7.443/176.63, Now #7; Best prior run: 7.383/181.94, Was #7

By the sub-par 60-foot times we are seeing, conditions are just not right for big performances this round....

Left Lane: Tony Mullen Runs 7.442/161.34, Now #8; Best prior run: 7.383/177.25, Was #8
Right Lane: Angelle Seeling Runs 7.382/177.39, Now #3; Best prior run: 7.247/180.26, Was #3

Angelle is staging very carefully, trying to avoid possibly meeting Antron Brown in the semis. The clutch was just too tight, too much tire spin at the start.

Left Lane: David Schultz Runs 7.362/182.70, Now #4; Best prior run: 7.286/184.12, Was #4
Right Lane: Matt Hines Runs 7.391/154.46, Now #1; Best prior run: 7.198/185.33, Was #1

Hines had to lift early after getting over near the centerline.

Left Lane: Lori Francis No Time, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.800/161.00, Was #19
Right Lane: Craig Treble Runs 7.367/175.07, Now #5; Best prior run: 7.295/180.48, Was #5

Lori's Hog wouldn't start, so Treble will make a single.

See a pattern here?

Right Lane: Ron Ayers Runs 7.466/175.75, Now #11; Best prior run: 7.398/176.35, Was #11

Right Lane: Larry Cook Runs 7.445/176.47, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.390/181.11, Was #9

Cook shook, hit the rev limiter, then leaned to the right all the way down on that run.

Qualifying ends with Matt Hines on Top, with fellow 6 speed tranny member Antron Brown 2nd. Angelle Seeling is third, so the championship picture could get interesting tomorrow indeed. 3:45 PM
