By Darryl Jackman

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, Second annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Kenny Koretsky Runs 7.014/195.79, Now #27; Best prior run: 7.021/196.42, Was #28
Right Lane: Jamey Ober Runs 7.355/186.12, Now #34; Best prior run: 7.308/186.90, Was #34

We're doing a quick Pro Stock shuffle on the starting at the moment. The temperature is on the cool side at 58 degrees. Humidity is 78% and barometer is 29.82. Track temperature is s cool 73 degrees. No help for either team. Both will need the final session later on this afternoon.

Left Lane: Jose Maldonado Runs 7.043/195.68, Now #31; Best prior run: 7.049/195.39, Was #32
Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 6.993/196.53, Now #21; Best prior run: 7.044/196.67, Was #31

1.027 60 foot number for Jeter isn't bad but the rest just doesn't make the grade. Maldonado had a 1.051.

Left Lane: JR Carr Runs 7.516/184.50, Now #32; Best prior run: 7.043/195.36, Was #32
Right Lane: Larry Peternel Runs 7.080/193.82, Now #33; Best prior run: 7.091/194.02, Was #33

Carr really struggles. Peternel is also off the pace.

Left Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 7.008/196.53, Now #28; Best prior run: 7.011/196.30, Was #27
Right Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.983/197.65, Now #19; Best prior run: 7.028/197.10, Was #30

Close for Morgan but it still only nets the #19 spot. Greg Anderson is still on the bump.

Left Lane: Ben Watson Runs 6.990/196.44, Now #22; Best prior run: 7.002/196.13, Was #27
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 6.996/197.25, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.021/196.99, Was #30

This pair is even closer but Anderson holds on to the final spot.

Left Lane: Mark Carter Runs 6.967/196.99, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.998/196.73, Was #26
Right Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.995/196.62, Now #25; Best prior run: 7.002/196.99, Was #28

Carter is in the second Splitfire car bumps his way into the field. Anderson is out. Troy Coughlin is now on the endangered list.

Left Lane: Mike Trumble Jr Runs 9.753/95.22, Now #27; Best prior run: 6.996/197.48, Was #26
Right Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.958/196.76, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.001/196.39, Was #28

Nice pass for Marnell and he puts Troy out of the field. Trumble is loose and clicks it off.

Left Lane: Darrell Alderman Runs 6.978/196.16, Now #19; Best prior run: 6.989/196.44, Was #23
Right Lane: Mark Whisnant Runs 6.968/197.28, Now #16; Best prior run: 6.982/197.80, Was #20

Yates is now on the bubble and Whisnant does the deed. He replaces Yates on the hot seat.

Left Lane: Tom Lee Runs 6.981/197.05, Now #22; Best prior run: 6.986/196.82, Was #23
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 7.000/197.86, Now #20; Best prior run: 6.981/198.00, Was #20

Anderson can't return the favor and bump Whisnant. He and Tom Lee both will need the final session.

Left Lane: Larry Nance Runs 6.986/197.42, Now #21; Best prior run: 6.981/197.74, Was #21
Right Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.955/198.32, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.968/197.54, Was #15

Coughlin finally lets his breath out after hearing that he now is in the #5 spot. Nance will have to come in through the last chance session.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.984/197.48, Now #18; Best prior run: 6.975/197.59, Was #18
Right Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 7.005/197.39, Now #15; Best prior run: 6.968/197.77, Was #15

Edwards slows but will remain in the #15 spot. Troy is in need of getting just a bit more power to the ground.

Left Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.983/196.59, Now #17; Best prior run: 6.973/196.59, Was #17
Right Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.965/197.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.963/197.80, Was #13

These two were dead even until half track. Pawuk had just a bit more in the second half and remains in the show. Yates is outside and watching Championships hopes winging away into the distance.

Left Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.976/197.51, Now #11; Best prior run: 6.962/196.93, Was #11
Right Lane: Gene Wilson Runs 6.979/196.87, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.963/198.09, Was #12

Both drivers are qualified but neither can improve.

Left Lane: V. Gaines Runs 6.957/198.17, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.958/198.52, Was #9
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.943/198.47, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.958/198.70, Was #8

This would be a first round pairing if nothing changes. It changes. Now Gaines would have lane choice instead of Krisher.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.921/199.11, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.948/198.79, Was #4
Right Lane: Scott Geoffrion Runs 6.959/197.39, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.957/197.39, Was #9

Johnson all the way to the top of the field. Geoffrion makes like a bracket racer.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.984/197.51, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.955/198.17, Was #7
Right Lane: Tom Hammonds Runs 6.971/197.57, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.951/197.86, Was #5

No help for this pair.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.962/199.02, Now #4; Best prior run: 6.946/198.41, Was #4
Right Lane: Greg Stanfield Runs 7.440/147.37, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.939/197.83, Was #2

Stanfield had better numbers through half track but the engine seemed to go through the clutch and he clicked it. Kurt fails to improve. That's the final pair and we move into Top Fuel.
