 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
  10 Mike Dunn 4.644 309.70 Q 15 Doug Herbert 4.716 310.66
   (B Vandergrif) 0.469 4.661 315.23 E1 (K Bernstein ) 0.537 4.844 304.46
 *****WINNER***** 0.468 4.603 315.01 E2 0.499 4.727 303.64

1:25 PM and we start with a great race, Dunn away just a bit quicker than Herbert off the line then stretching the lead at every interval. The margin at the end was a full 0.155 seconds.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   8 Eddie Hill 4.626 309.06 Q 1 Gary Scelzi 4.525 319.37
   (J Head ) 0.523 4.622 308.32 E1 (R Parks ) 0.490 5.202 194.17
                  0.514 4.656 310.13 E2 *****WINNER***** 0.482 4.577 320.74

Gary was away first but Hill was quicker to 60' and 330', then the big red and white machine dug in and pulled off to a big 0.111 second win, over 50 feet at the stripe.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   3 Larry Dixon 4.564 307.69 Q 6 Doug Kalitta 4.606 308.95
   (T Schumacher) 0.429 4.579 316.78 E1 (C Powell ) 0.498 4.641 317.79
 *****WINNER***** 0.456 4.561 309.06 E2 0.504 9.444 89.86

Kalitta was in trouble right away, the clutch coming in way too early for the available traction. He was trailing tire smoke by the time he passed the 100' mark, meanwhile Dixon streaks to the finish, clean and dry.

 Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed-Rd-Qua-Driver(Opp'nt)-RT-----ET---Speed
   4 Joe Amato 4.589 319.48 Q 5 Cory McClenathan 4.590 309.49
   (C Kalitta ) 0.429 4.644 316.12 E1 (B Sarver ) 0.473 4.704 319.94
 *****WINNER***** 0.456 4.655 316.78 E2 0.484 4.640 311.74

That win by Amato may go down as a pivotal point in the championship race, as it takes away the points lead from Cory Mac and does lots of damage to his hopes for the title. If Scelzi goes ahead and wins today, it will take a miracle to deny him his second Winston title in as many years.
