ENNIS - Pro Stock Qualifying Notes, Session # 3
By Ed Dykes

And the Hits Just Keep On Coming...

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock at the 13th annual NHRA Revell Nationals, listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, (best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run):
Left Lane: Mark Pawuk Runs 6.889/199.55 Now # 2, (Best prior run: 6.897/199.07 Was # 2)
Right Lane: Mark Osborne Runs 6.955/197.49 Now # 6, (Best prior run: 6.921/198.36 Was # 6)

12:17 PM and we start the session under sunny skies, and mid-sixties temps. Just another beautiful day in Texas...

Left Lane: Tom Martino Runs 6.918/199.02 Now # 6, (Best prior run: 6.937/199.02 Was # 9)
Right Lane: John Nobile Runs 7.478/151.23 Now #15, (Best prior run: 6.978/198.32 Was #15)

The bump spot is currently 6.978, Mike Edwards.

Left Lane: Larry Morgan Runs 6.951/198.19 Now #10, (Best prior run: 7.052/196.85 Was #25)
Right Lane: V. Gaines Runs 7.036/197.10 Now #19, (Best prior run: 6.981/197.62 Was #18)

Morgan finally gets his problems sorted out, and moves the Raybestos Camaro into the show. That moves Edwards out, and leaves Nobile on the bubble.

Left Lane: Joel Bayless Runs 7.416/188.79 Now #28, (Best prior run: 8.555/109.48 Was #28)
Right Lane: Arturo Delgado Runs 7.665/138.95 Now #12, (Best prior run: 6.957/199.11 Was #12)

Left Lane: Jeg Coughlin Runs 6.903/199.11 Now # 3, (Best prior run: 6.907/199.42 Was # 4)
Right Lane: Mike Thomas Runs 6.914/199.15 Now # 6, (Best prior run: 6.973/198.36 Was #15)

Solid passes in both lanes, and they move up accordingly. Thomas was sure frustrated yesterday.

Left Lane: Steve Schmidt Runs 6.942/198.67 Now #11, (Best prior run: 6.986/197.41 Was #21)
Right Lane: Dester Cambron Runs 7.033/196.63 Now #22, (Best prior run: 6.993/197.41 Was #22)

And Nobile falls from the qualified list, with Schmidt's move up the ladder. That moves the bubble to 6.960, now Greg Anderson.

Left Lane: Warren Johnson Runs 6.867/201.34 Now # 1, (Best prior run: 6.878/200.84 Was # 1)
Right Lane: Bruce Allen Runs 6.947/197.62 Now #12, (Best prior run: 7.023/196.76 Was #24)

That's a new national record for WJ, resetting both ends of the mark. And he didn't even need the extra points.

Left Lane: Ray Franks Runs 6.965/198.19 Now #18, (Best prior run: 7.004/196.29 Was #24)
Right Lane: Taylor Lastor Runs 7.033/195.90 Now #26, (Best prior run: 10.536/ 85.29 Was #30)

Bruce Allen's move up the ladder bumped Anderson, and now Robert Patrick's Ford is in danger, at 6.957. Franks just misses, here.

Left Lane: Troy Coughlin Runs 6.954/198.58 Now #14, (Best prior run: 6.953/198.50 Was #14)
Right Lane: Brad Klein Runs 7.046/193.50 Now #27, (Best prior run: 9.625/ 95.87 Was #30)

If the ladder doesn't change, Troy would face off against Jeg in round one tomorrow... of course, there's little chance that something won't change.

Left Lane: George Marnell Runs 6.940/197.71 Now #10, (Best prior run: 6.935/197.06 Was #10)
Right Lane: Jim Yates Runs 6.933/198.80 Now # 5, (Best prior run: 6.908/198.36 Was # 5)

Left Lane: Robert Patrick Runs 6.925/198.80 Now # 9, (Best prior run: 6.957/198.54 Was #16)
Right Lane: Greg Anderson Runs 6.992/198.41 Now #17, (Best prior run: 6.960/198.41 Was #17)

Robert Patrick moves the Ford off the bubble in style, while Anderson fails to regain his place in the pay window line.

Left Lane: Kurt Johnson Runs 6.907/199.95 Now # 5, (Best prior run: 6.927/199.46 Was #10)
Right Lane: Ron Krisher Runs 6.966/198.45 Now #19, (Best prior run: 6.981/198.15 Was #21)

The bubble is now 6.957, Delgado.

Left Lane: Allen Johnson Runs 6.947/198.06 Now #13, (Best prior run: 7.069/197.45 Was #29)
Right Lane: Larry Nance Runs 7.032/195.95 Now #26, (Best prior run: 7.026/196.07 Was #25)

Looks like Roy Johnson found the handle on that Eicke engine, and Allen parlayed a 1.032 60' time to a spot in the show. That's a great boost for the Johnson & Johnson Amoco Mopar team.

Left Lane: Shawn Collins Runs 8.877/107.52 Now #31, (Best prior run: 13.031/ 65.29 Was #31)
Right Lane: Danny Coffman Runs 7.011/196.76 Now #26, (Best prior run: 7.057/195.65 Was #29)

Left Lane: Mike Edwards Runs 6.930/198.85 Now #11, (Best prior run: 6.978/196.50 Was #22)
Right Lane: Richie Stevens Runs 6.891/199.33 Now # 3, (Best prior run: 6.905/198.41 Was # 4)

Edwards regains his slot, and moves Coughlin out of the field. Allen Johnson bumped Delgado, by the way. So it's Larry Morgan in danger, now, at 6.951.

Left Lane: Rickie Smith Runs 6.948/197.88 Now #16, (Best prior run: 6.984/196.80 Was #24)

Fitting, the last guy in the round gets the last slot in the field. That bumped Morgan, and so after three rounds the field is the second quickest ever, right behind the 6.940 bump set last spring at Houston.
