Left Lane Too Tough to Tame

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Pro Stock Truck at the 13th annual NHRA Revell Nationals, listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, (best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run):
Left Lane: Robert Freeman Runs 11.921/ 68.66 Now #30, (No prior time)
Right Lane: Ronnie Sox Runs 9.552/100.68 Now #14, (Best prior run: 7.828/171.55 Was #14)

2:52 PM and the trucks return for their second shot. They will make one more qualifying shot tonight, another tomorrow morning, then go into eliminations.

Slow 60' times in both lanes, and then both slowed and coasted through.

Left Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 10.412/ 87.72 Now #30, (Best prior run: 21.089/ 34.73 Was #32)
Right Lane: Mike Coughlin Runs 7.765/172.84 Now #11, (Best prior run: 7.746/173.44 Was #11)

Daniels also skates all over the left lane.

Right Lane: Dave McConnell Runs 7.966/147.10 Now #19, (Best prior run: 7.805/170.03 Was #19)

The trucks in the left lane are having a hard time getting launched cleanly, many are diving toward the centerline.

Left Lane: Arthur Hodges Runs 9.468/100.52 Now #25, (Best prior run: 7.977/140.73 Was #25)
Right Lane: Mike Mahon Runs 10.273/ 90.62 Now #15, (Best prior run: 7.984/167.87 Was #15)

More problems around the 330-foot mark, Hodges skating all over the place.

Left Lane: Bo Nickens Runs 8.473/121.86 Now #27, (No prior time)
Right Lane: Bart Price Runs 7.728/172.18 Now #10, (Best prior run: 7.856/170.81 Was #22)

Another close call in the left lane, Bo getting severely out of shape from half track on, almost crossing the centerline near the finish line. They check the track and find nothing on it.

Left Lane: David Nickens Runs 9.095/106.00 Now # 8, (Best prior run: 7.698/173.91 Was # 8)
Right Lane: Dyno Don Nicholson Runs 8.019/165.28 Now #16, (Best prior run: 8.061/167.97 Was #16)

Same tale, David gets to about 330 feet and then his truck makes a major move toward the centerline.

Left Lane: Jerry Haas Runs 8.156/131.65 Now # 5, (Best prior run: 7.671/175.33 Was # 5)
Right Lane: Don Smith Runs 7.808/171.16 Now #21, (Best prior run: 7.808/171.82 Was #21)

Same left lane song, Haas getting almost 1,000 feet down the track before starting to fishtail.

Left Lane: Sondra Sikes Runs 10.716/ 83.11 Now #32, (Best prior run: 17.171/ 45.68 Was #33)
Right Lane: Steven Farr Runs 8.064/165.25 Now #24, (Best prior run: 7.947/166.05 Was #24)

Sikes started fishtailing about 200 feet out. So far not one truck has gotten down the left lane cleanly.

Left Lane: Roy Hill Runs 9.787/ 95.54 Now #13, (Best prior run: 7.762/172.14 Was #13)
Right Lane: John Lingenfelter Runs 7.693/173.47 Now # 8, (Best prior run: 7.709/175.43 Was # 9)

Hill gets to the 330-foot "magic spot" and then the truck starts fishtailing and he calls it off.

Left Lane: Grant Lewis Runs 8.106/133.45 Now # 6, (Best prior run: 7.682/175.16 Was # 6)
Right Lane: Mark Ingersoll Runs 7.746/171.85 Now #18, (Best prior run: 7.752/172.24 Was #18)

Lewis did as well as anyone, getting to half track before starting to dance.

Right Lane: Brad Jeter Runs 7.638/176.05 Now # 3, (Best prior run: 7.621/176.29 Was # 3)

Right Lane: Tim Freeman Runs 7.668/175.57 Now # 4, (Best prior run: 7.625/175.57 Was # 4)

Right Lane: Larry Seay No Time Now #11, (Best prior run: 7.739/173.37 Was #11)

Nobody wants to run in the left lane now...Seay breaks after the burnout.

Right Lane: Craig Eaton Runs 7.740/172.64 Now # 7, (Best prior run: 7.683/173.54 Was # 7)

Right Lane: Todd Patterson Runs 8.491/122.59 Now #28, (No prior time)

Left Lane: Chris DeSalvo No Time Now #12, (Best prior run: 7.752/172.57 Was #12)
Right Lane: Jonathan Aloisio Runs 7.870/171.29 Now #23, (Best prior run: 8.837/112.35 Was #30)

DeSalvo pre-staged, then sat there, apparently shutting it off.

Left Lane: Brian Self No Time Now #25, (Best prior run: 7.885/170.35 Was #24)
Right Lane: Roy Simmons Runs 7.796/170.87 Now #14, (Best prior run: 8.200/132.33 Was #27)

Self's truck left a trail of liquid, then flashed into flames under the hood when he shut it off - probably a fuel leak.

Left Lane: Joe Pigford Runs 8.140/137.27 Now #19, (Best prior run: 7.774/171.33 Was #19)

Last truck, stuck in traffic under the tower. Pigford came as close as anyone to making a full pass in the left lane, but his truck also headed for the centerline on the top end and he slowed.
