TOPEKA, Kan. -- Our apologies for the lack of updates today, but just about every time we thought we knew what the weather was doing, it changed. The Safety Safari has started drying the track surface half a dozen times, only to have the skies open up yet again. The day dawned with a heavy overcast and 100% humidity. The mist turned into raindrops around 9am, and for a short while it rained heavily. The downpour subsided about 10:30, and the track drying process started. Since then the clouds have been alternately scattered and thick, but it's been drizzling more often than not. NHRA officials are determined to wait until the last possible minute to pull the plug on today's activities. The race next weekend at Memphis leaves NHRA few options for rescheduling. Unless the race can be completed tomorrow, the latest plan calls for us to return to Topeka the weekend of October 17th
We'll be back with the final word as soon as we get it.
