With CGM bproauto Ford Mustang despite Close Loss at the Strip

• Chad Green produced strong performances in the Mopar NHRA Las Vegas powered by Dodge with his nitro-burning CGM bproauto Ford Mustang Funny Car last weekend

• The veteran racer from Midland, Tex., drove his 12,000-horsepower monster to runs of 3.885 and 3.905 in qualifying and eliminations in the windy conditions at the Strip

• Sporting the popular blue, orange and white colors of the bproauto brand, Green's Funny Car has been hit with the NHRA fans this year with special race promotions

• The two-time 2026 NHRA race winner had a tough matchup against former world champion J.R. Todd in the first round Sunday and just missed the win by a few feet

LAS VEGAS - Thousands of seconds and a few inches can determine a Funny Car drag race each weekend at an NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series event and that was the case for veteran driver Chad Green and his popular CGM bproauto Ford Mustang Sunday in the Mopar NHRA Las Vegas Nationals powered by Dodge.

Green, a two-time Funny Car winner this year, turned in some stellar runs in qualifying and eliminations at the 19th race of the 20-event national drag racing campaign at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. But only a couple of feet kept Green from advancing in Sunday's wild action.

After recording a solid 3.905-second pass in qualifying on Saturday, Green had a tough matchup with former world champion J.R. Todd in the first round of eliminations. But Green and his CGM bproauto crew were up for the task in the cold, windy weather conditions.

Green took his nitro machine to its best run of the weekend with a 3.886-second clocking, but Todd had the quicker reaction time off the starting line and nipped Green at the finish line for the win. Despite a 3.909 run, Todd was able to grab the win with a 'Holeshot.'

Green's recent elimination runs have had some bad breaks, competing former world champions and just losing by inches.

"Wow, we just haven't had the breaks lately," said Green after the first-round action. "In the last few races, we have been right there to advance to more rounds in eliminations. But little things have kept us from moving on. Overall, I'm happy with the progress with the team. We are getting back to the performances we had earlier this year when we won at the Gatornationals and the Route 66 Nationals.

"It was great to run the bproauto colors again at Las Vegas. They have been a great partner this year with a ton of promotions at the races and the fans have really enjoyed it too. It's fun to see them with our bproauto Funny Car t-shirts and hats. I look forward to working with them again next year."

Green's son, Hunter, driving the CGM team's Dodge//SRT Hellcat Funny Car, moved to the quarterfinals Sunday in Las Vegas with an upset of Alexis DeJoria of John Force Racing in the first round of eliminations with a 3.923-second run. In the quarterfinals, Green had to face reigning world champion Austin Prock who laid down a superb 3.888 for the victory.

The Greens will return to nitro Funny Car action for the final event of the 2026 NHRA Mission Drag Racing Series at the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals on Nov. 13-15 at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds. Nitro qualifying begins Friday (Nov. 13) at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. PDT. Saturday's qualifying rounds are set for 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m., with final eliminations to start on Sunday (Nov. 15) at 11 a.m. PST. The Fox Sports 1 network will televise the In-N-Out Burger NHRA Finals eliminations on Sunday at 5 p.m. EST/2 p.m. PST.
