Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Final Session

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from final, round 4 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 41st annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 9.315/80.76, Now #20; Best prior run: 4.331/214.65, Was #20
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 11.346/83.26, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.083/311.18, Was #18

3:49 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 45 percent, barometer 30.41 inches, adjusted altitude 378 feet, track temperature 108 degrees.

Diehl strikes the tires at the hit, gets about 60 feet out and clicks it off. Campbell went up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and gave up on the run.

Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.099/307.17, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.050/315.99, Was #17

Haddock goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend and he gets in on the bump...for now. Arend lost a cylinder late in the run and slowed.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 4.137/231.68, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.930/300.20, Was #13
Right Lane: Chris King Runs 8.781/81.41, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.038/311.22, Was #17

Prock was on a decent but lost traction and had to back off of the throttle. King rattled the tires at the hit and had to give up on the run.

Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 8.442/75.13, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.925/333.68, Was #12
Right Lane: Hunter Green Runs 4.096/280.97, Now #15; Best prior run: 3.985/321.31, Was #15

Richards struck the tires at the hit and gave up on the run quickly. Green had a cylinder out early and backed off of the throttle about 900 feet out.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.912/328.37, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.921/326.80, Was #10
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 3.896/329.98, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.937/330.35, Was #14

Lee goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend but he stays in the tenth spot. Wilkerson improves and moves up to the seventh spot.

Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.167/280.11 mph.

Daniel Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.251, 660ft-3.159/285.75 mph.

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.965/308.37, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.914/327.92, Was #11
Right Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 3.935/328.18, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.922/323.93, Was #12

A good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean, straight passes but neither driver improves.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.267, 660ft-3.202/278.31 mph.

Spencer Hyde's incremental times: 60ft-0.889 sec., 330ft-2.273, 660ft-3.191/282.79 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 3.953/325.10, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.910/330.32, Was #9
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.965/327.44, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.899/324.61, Was #8

Another good side-by-side. Green makes a good run but he doesn't improve. Capps goes down the groove with a good pass but stays in the eighth spot.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.906/332.42, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.874/337.13, Was #5
Right Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 3.889/333.41, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.881/333.83, Was #6

Todd makes another good run but doesn't improve. Vandergriff goes down the groove with a good run but stays in the sixth spot.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.252, 660ft-3.170/283.43 mph.

Jordan Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.252, 660ft-3.158/287.06 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.878/331.93, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.873/333.09, Was #4
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.963/316.23, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.855/323.83, Was #3

DeJoria makes a good pass but doesn't improve. Pedregon lost a cylinder on the left side of the engine, the car made a move to the left, but he was able to steer it back to the groove and makes a decent run.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.883 sec., 330ft-2.247, 660ft-3.145/289.11 mph.

Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.257, 660ft-3.196/275.52 mph.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.920/333.53, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.855/334.80, Was #2
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.855/337.13, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.852/330.13, Was #1

Another good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean, straight passes. Hagan slows a little from his previous attempt. Beckman makes the quickest pass of the round.
