Funny Car Qualifying Notes, Session #2

ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 41st annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:

Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.914/327.92, Now #3; Best prior run: 10.032/80.69, Was #19
Right Lane: Hunter Green Runs 3.985/321.31, Now #9; No Prior Run

8:16 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 59 degrees, relative humidity 57 percent, barometer 30.41 inches, adjusted altitude 352 feet, track temperature 77 degrees.

Alexander goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass, header flames high and steady all the way through the run, and he moves all the way to the third spot.

Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.876 sec., 330ft-2.242, 660ft-3.168/280.88 mph.

Green makes a full pass, right down the groove, and he gets in the show in the ninth spot.

Hunter Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.292, 660ft-3.230/276.72 mph.

Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.873/333.09, Now #2; Best prior run: 8.471/75.74, Was #19
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 3.937/330.35, Now #6; Best prior run: 8.782/76.51, Was #20

Another good side-by-side, both down the groove hitting on all cylinders. DeJoria makes her quickest run of the day and moves up to the second spot. Wilkerson makes his quickest pass of the day but was falling behind all the way through the run.

Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.230, 660ft-3.138/284.59 mph.

Daniel Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.282, 660ft-3.200/285.15 mph.

Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.331/214.65, Now #16; Best prior run: 8.151/78.95, Was #19
Right Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 3.881/333.83, Now #3; Best prior run: 8.347/77.75, Was #20

Diehl was on a good pass but had problems late in the run and backed off of the throttle. Vandergriff goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass and he moves up to the third spot for now.

Jordan Vandergriff's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.249, 660ft-3.150/286.73 mph.

Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 4.050/315.99, Now #13; Best prior run: 6.838/96.99, Was #20

Arend makes a full pass but sparks were coming out of the exhaust at times. He improves and moves up to the 13th spot for now.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 6.970/91.51, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.201/218.63, Was #16
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 4.113/291.58, Now #15; Best prior run: 5.866/119.89, Was #20

Prock lost traction at the hit. he pedals, then gives up on the run. Campbell was on a decent run but green flames started coming out of the headers when he got about 700 feet out and the car slowed. Campbell improves enough to get in the show, knocking out Prock in the process.

Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.925/333.68, Now #8; Best prior run: 4.141/252.55, Was #16
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.852/330.13, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.588/172.44, Was #20

Another good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Richards improves and gets off of the bump and into the eighth spot. Beckman makes an impressive pass and goes all the way to the top spot.

Dave Richards' incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.272, 660ft-3.188/285.21 mph.

Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.866 sec., 330ft-2.222, 660ft-3.117/288.81 mph.

Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 3.910/330.32, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.966/320.83, Was #13
Right Lane: Chris King Runs 4.577/188.50, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.077/268.02, Was #16

Green makes a clean, straight pass and he moves up to the fifth spot in the order. King had traction problems at the hit. The car makes a move to the left, he steers it back toward the groove, then backs off of the throttle.

Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.261, 660ft-3.172/285.66 mph.

Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.874/337.13, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.944/330.18, Was #11
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.455/94.76, Now #13; Best prior run: 3.960/319.83, Was #13

Todd goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the fourth spot for now. Capps has traction problems early and gives up on the run.

J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.236, 660ft-3.148/286.51 mph.

Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.241/215.99, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.921/326.80, Was #9
Right Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 3.922/323.93, Now #10; Best prior run: 3.956/320.90, Was #12

Lee has traction problems and gets out of the groove. He drifts to the right, gets close to the centerline and backs off of the throttle. Hyde improves and moves up to the tenth spot for now.

Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.855/334.80, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.911/333.88, Was #7
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 8.465/80.69, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.855/323.83, Was #2

Hagan was drifting toward the wall late in the run but stayed on the throttle and moves all the way to the second spot. Pedregon had traction problems and was off of the throttle early.

Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.226, 660ft-3.127/288.50 mph.
