LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 25th annual Dodge NHRA Nevada Nationals powered by Direct Connection listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Chris Morel No Time, Now #1
1:29 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 81 degrees, relative humidity 16 percent, barometer 29.92 inches, adjusted altitude 3,933 feet.
Morel had problems on the burnout and did not make a pass.
Left Lane: Del Worsham Runs 3.996/297.68, Now #1
Right Lane: Tim Gibbons Runs 4.140/271.46, Now #2
The last time Worsham raced in an NHRA event was the last race in Pomona of 2023.
Worsham drifted a little to the left and may have been out of power a little early. Gibbons had problems late and was off of the throttle a little early.
Left Lane: Dylan Winefsky Runs 4.279/279.50, Now #4
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 4.037/313.00, Now #2
Winefsky drifted a little to the left and may have been off of the throttle a little early. Rupert drifted left early and had to fight to keep it off of the centerline.
Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.713/178.54, Now #6
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.015/321.81, Now #2
Diehl gets about 500 feet out, loses traction, then the rear of the car starts moving around and he gives up on the run. Alexander makes a full pass and gets in the second spot for now.
Left Lane: Buddy Hull Runs 5.042/144.98, Now #8
Right Lane: Dave Richards Runs 4.541/193.40, Now #6
This is Hull's first time back in the car since the Sonoma race.
Hull gets about 400 feet out and flames start coming from under the car. The car noses over and he comes to a stop in the shutdown area. Richards has problems about 500 feet out and was out of power.
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 4.205/228.46, Now #6
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.962/330.15, Now #1
Todd gets about 600 feet out, starts moving toward the centerline, then has to back off of the throttle. tasca went down the groove with a clean, straight pass and he moves into the top spot for now.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.283, 660ft-3.220/280.95 mph.
Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.948/330.96, Now #1
Right Lane: Spencer Hyde Runs 3.993/304.67, Now #3
DeJoria goes down the groove with a good run and she takes the top spot for now. Hyde makes a decent run to get in the third spot.
Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.884 sec., 330ft-2.285, 660ft-3.210/281.25 mph.
Spencer Hyde's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.282, 660ft-3.219/276.86 mph.
Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 5.723/124.01, Now #14
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 4.051/306.88, Now #7
Green had problems about 400 feet out and was off the throttle early. It looked like Pedregon may have had a cylinder out through most of the run.
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.006/324.83, Now #5
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 4.132/261.12, Now #9
Lee goes down the groove with a good run and he gets in the fifth spot for now. Wilkerson had problems late in the run and was off of the throttle early.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 9.012/78.20, Now #18
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 4.620/178.31, Now #14
Capps rattles the tires off of the line and he was out of power early. Beckman gets about 400 feet out, hazes the tires and clicks it off.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.951/322.42, Now #3
Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.925/332.43, Now #1
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good passes. Prock makes the quickest pass of the round and takes the top spot and three bonus points. Hagan takes the third spot to pick up a bonus point.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.273, 660ft-3.199/278.69 mph.
Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.268, 660ft-3.189/283.49 mph.
