LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 8.235/113.17, Now #12; Best prior run: 12.471/59.94, Was #14
3:58 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 21 percent, barometer 30.01 inches, adjusted altitude 2,778 feet.
Januik loses traction about 60 feet out, makes a little move to the right, then backs off of the throttle.
Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.495/263.41, Now #10; Best prior run: 13.972/65.07, Was #15
Right Lane: Melanie Johnson Runs 5.291/274.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 6.759/132.99, Was #10
Johnson goes down the groove with an impressive run and she gets in the show in the third spot. Fricke made a clean, straight pass but was falling behind all the way through the run.
Melanie Johnson's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.416, 660ft-3.532/224.47 mph, 1,000ft-4.477.
Left Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.255/275.45, Now #1; Best prior run: 11.487/88.97, Was #15
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.472/256.21, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.434/256.06, Was #9
Demke goes down the groove with a clean, straight run and moves up to the top spot for now. Parker had a cylinder out for part of the run and did not improve.
Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.929 sec., 330ft-2.361, 660ft-3.481/223.14 mph, 1,000ft-4.440.
Left Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 5.477/272.23, Now #11; Best prior run: 9.753/83.47, Was #15
Right Lane: Shaunda Blinzler Runs 5.382/271.95, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.357/273.16, Was #8
Bruce makes a full pass this time and improves but not enough to get in the qualified field. Blinzler makes a decent pass but doesn't improve and stays on the bump spot.
Left Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.310/271.52, Now #7; Best prior run: 8.180/116.33, Was #14
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.293/274.39, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.331/270.00, Was #7
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with full passes. Stevens improves and moves up to the seventh spot, bumping out Blinzler. Severance improves and moves up to the fifth spot, for now.
James Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.900 sec., 330ft-2.363, 660ft-3.506/216.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.483.
Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.910 sec., 330ft-2.362, 660ft-3.494/216.79 mph, 1,000ft-4.465.
Left Lane: Eric Chesleigh Runs 11.959/79.33, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.577/177.09, Was #14
Right Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 7.112/126.07, Now #8; Best prior run: 5.327/270.10, Was #8
Chesleigh hits the throttle, rattles the tires, then gives up on the run. Grisel gets about 400 feet out, pulls the front wheels about four feet into the air and backs off of the throttle.
Left Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 5.415/260.76, Now #10; Best prior run: 5.388/262.69, Was #10
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.347/262.59, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.297/263.26, Was #6
Myers makes a clean pass but doesn't improve and he is not in the field. Olivarez goes down the groove with a decent run but doesn't improve and stays in the sixth spot.
Left Lane: Madison Payne Runs 5.287/273.77, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.269/274.55, Was #2
Right Lane: Jon Bradford No Time, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.274/272.28, Was #3
Bradford's crew could not get the engine to fire and he did not make a pass. Payne goes down the groove with another good run and she stays in the second spot.
Madison Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.954 sec., 330ft-2.419, 660ft-3.524/224.88 mph, 1,000ft-4.472.
