LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Melanie Johnson Runs 6.759/132.99, Now #1
12:57 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 18 percent, barometer 30.07 inches, adjusted altitude 2,685 feet.
This is Johnson's debut in Top Alcohol Dragster. She is the daughter of crew chief Alan Johnson.
Johnson leaves the line and starts moving toward the centerline. She gets about 400 feet and backs off of the throttle.
Left Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.297/263.26, Now #1
Right Lane: Eric Chesleigh Runs 5.577/177.09, Now #2
Olivarez goes down the groove with a good pass and takes the early pole. Chesleigh was on a decent pass but the chutes came out early, not sure why.
Aaron Olivarez's incremental times: 60ft-0.925 sec., 330ft-2.402, 660ft-3.511/225.26 mph, 1,000ft-4.460.
Eric Chesleigh's incremental times: 60ft-0.932 sec., 330ft-2.415, 660ft-3.513/226.92 mph, 1,000ft-4.497.
Left Lane: Nick Januik Runs 12.471/59.94, Now #5
Right Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 5.388/262.69, Now #2
Januik rattles the tires at the hit, gets about 200 feet out and clicks it off. Myers goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the second spot for now.
Mitch Myers' incremental times: 60ft-0.951 sec., 330ft-2.462, 660ft-3.598/221.31 mph, 1,000ft-4.555.
Left Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.434/256.06, Now #3
Right Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 9.753/83.47, Now #6
Parker had a cylinder out at the hit but stayed on the throttle and gets in the field in the third spot for now. Bruce rattled the tires at the hit and was off of the throttle early.
Left Lane: Jon Bradford Runs 5.274/272.28, Now #1
Right Lane: James Stevens Runs 8.180/116.33, Now #7
Bradford goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far to move into the top spot for now. Stevens loses traction at the hit and had to give up on the run early.
Jon Bradford's incremental times: 60ft-0.923 sec., 330ft-2.367, 660ft-3.492/219.72 mph, 1,000ft-4.453.
Left Lane: Shaunda Blinzler Runs 5.357/273.16, Now #3
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 11.487/88.97, Now #10
Blinzler goes down the groove with a good run and she gets in the show in the third spot for now. Demke goes up in smoke at the hit and backs off of the throttle.
Shaunda Blinzler's incremental times: 60ft-0.921 sec., 330ft-2.413, 660ft-3.560/217.00 mph, 1,000ft-4.534.
Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.327/270.10, Now #4
Right Lane: Madison Payne Runs 5.269/274.55, Now #1
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean, straight passes. Payne makes the quickest pass of the round so far and takes the top spot for now, Grisel to the fourth spot.
Casey Grisel's incremental times: 60ft-0.967 sec., 330ft-2.457, 660ft-3.562/225.97 mph, 1,000ft-4.506.
Madison Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.948 sec., 330ft-2.419, 660ft-3.517/226.32 mph, 1,000ft-4.458.
Left Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.331/270.00, Now #5
Right Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 13.972/65.07, Now #15
Fricke goes up in smoke at the hit and was off of the throttle before she got 100 feet out. Severance went down the groove with a good pass and he gets in the show in the fifth spot to end this session.
Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.922 sec., 330ft-2.385, 660ft-3.524/214.69 mph, 1,000ft-4.500.
