LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 24th annual Ford Performance NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Aaron Olivarez Runs 5.485/257.19, Now #1
11:11 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 63 degrees, relative humidity 23 percent, barometer 29.98 inches, adjusted altitude 2,723 feet.
Olivarez looked like he may have had a cylinder out late in the run.
Left Lane: Tyson Parker Runs 5.709/252.47, Now #2
Right Lane: Nick Januik Runs 5.861/264.08, Now #3
Parker makes a clean pass to get in the second spot for now. Januik's engine was laboring all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Mike Austin Runs 9.213/101.30, Now #5
Right Lane: Trevor Larkin Runs 5.396/259.51, Now #1
Austin rattled the tires at the hit, gets about 200 feet out and backs off of the throttle. Larkin goes down the groove with a clean pass to take the early pole.
Left Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 5.461/259.56, Now #2
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.513/246.39, Now #4
Myers went down the groove with a decent pass and he gets in the second spot for now.
Parker had a cylinder out on the left side all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Jon Bradford No Time, Now #9
Right Lane: Nick Spiegel Runs 5.288/269.73, Now #1
Bradford left before the tree was activated, rattled the tires at the hit and was off of the throttle about 200 feet out. Spiegel goes down the groove with a good pass and takes the top spot for now.
Left Lane: Todd Bruce Runs 5.410/272.83, Now #3
Right Lane: Kirk Wolf Runs 5.512/261.83, Now #6
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with decent runs. Bruce gets in the third spot for now, Wolf to the fifth spot.
Left Lane: James Stevens Runs 5.351/269.67, Now #2
Right Lane: Shaunda Blinzler Runs 5.394/268.06, Now #3
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with good runs. Stevens gets in the second spot for now, Blinzler just behind in the third spot.
James Stevens' incremental times: 60ft-0.918 sec., 330ft-2.382, 660ft-3.536/214.55 mph, 1,000ft-4.518.
Shaunda Blinzler's incremental times: 60ft-0.946 sec., 330ft-2.421, 660ft-3.572/215.44 mph, 1,000ft-4.557.
Left Lane: Jared Dreher Runs 5.385/270.48, Now #4
Right Lane: Chris Demke Runs 5.267/271.62, Now #1
Dreher makes a clean pass and gets in the fourth spot for now. Demke goes down the groove with an impressive pass to take the top spot for now.
Jared Dreher's incremental times: 60ft-0.961 sec., 330ft-2.492, 660ft-3.613/223.84 mph, 1,000ft-4.562.
Chris Demke's incremental times: 60ft-0.919 sec., 330ft-2.351, 660ft-3.479/219.15 mph, 1,000ft-4.446.
Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.476/257.28, Now #10
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.297/272.45, Now #3
Grisel makes a decent pass but it looked like he may have had a cylinder out for most of the run. Severance makes a good pass and gets in the third spot for now.
Left Lane: Madison Payne Runs 5.374/274.00, Now #6
Right Lane: Joe Maynard Runs 5.273/269.08, Now #2
Payne makes a good pass but was falling behind all the way through the run. maynard goes down the groove with a good pass and he gets in the field in the second spot for now.
Joe Maynard's incremental times: 60ft-0.927 sec., 330ft-2.390, 660ft-3.497/224.96 mph, 1,000ft-4.445.
Madison Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.980 sec., 330ft-2.482, 660ft-3.608/222.51 mph, 1,000ft-4.559.
Left Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 5.358/269.94, Now #6
Right Lane: Matthew Cummings Runs 5.487/259.36, Now #15
Sampey goes down the groove with a decent pass and gets in the sixth spot for now. Cummings had a cylinder or two out for most of the run.
Left Lane: Julie Nataas Runs 15.278/47.51, Now #22
Right Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 8.951/95.37, Now #20
0-for-2 on this one. Nataas goes up in smoke at the hit and was off of the throttle before she got 100 feet out. Cowie struck the tires, pedaled once, then gave up on the run.
Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.354/273.11, Now #6
Right Lane: Hunter Green Runs 5.355/270.81, Now #7
A good side-by-side to finish this session. Fricke makes a decent pass and gets in the show in the sixth spot, Green just behind in seventh.
