Romine ready for NHRA vs. IHRA battle at CARQUEST Fox Hunt

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- Never before in Drag Racing History! The advertisement sums it up best for what is being called the match race of the decade, the CARQUEST Fox Hunt, Saturday, May 23 at Bill Bader’s beautiful Norwalk Raceway Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

At the CARQUEST Fox Hunt, 1997 IHRA Top Fuel World Champion Paul Romine will take his CARQUEST Top Fuel dragster to battle against 1997 NHRA Top Fuel World Champion Gary Scelzi, three-time Top Fuel World Champion Shirley Muldowney and teenage sensation Cristen Powell. Billed as the Top Fuel War of NHRA and IHRA stars, the CARQUEST Fox Hunt will offer free general admission to all ladies with free pit passes to male spectators.

“The CARQUEST Fox Hunt is going to be a fun and interesting night of racing,” Romine said. “The stresses of a national event will not be present, but it’s still going to be a fierce night or drag racing because pride will be on the line. Our team is going to Norwalk with a national event combination and I know Shirley, Cristen and Gary will not be letting up so I would expect national event caliber racing with our 4.70 track record probably falling.”

The spectator gates at Norwalk Raceway Park for the CARQUEST Fox Hunt will open at 9 a.m. (EDT) with time trials scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. First round of Top Fuel will start at approximately 7 p.m. with the second round following three hours later.

A one hour highlight show of the CARQUEST Fox Hunt will air at a later date on ESPN2 with race highlights appearing on ESPN2’s Inside Drag Racing.
