ENNIS, Texas - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series, 39th annual Texas NHRA FallNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Dale Creasy Jr. Runs 3.909/326.96, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.125/108.64, Was #19
8:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 40 percent, barometer 30.06 inches, adjusted altitude 2,121 feet.
Creasy goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass, the quickest of his career, and he moves up to the sixth spot for now.
Dale Creasy Jr.'s incremental times: 60ft-0.867 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.162/280.67 mph.
Left Lane: Jeff Diehl Runs 4.349/236.29, Now #17; Best prior run: 4.129/283.70, Was #16
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.100/282.11, Now #16; Best prior run: 5.071/150.69, Was #19
Diehl gets about 500 feet out and it looks like he lost a head gasket. Haddock improves and gets in on the bump spot, knocking out Diehl.
Left Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 4.025/313.41, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.067/314.73, Was #15
Right Lane: Chris King No Time, Now #19; Best prior run: 4.477/198.39, Was #19
Bode went down the groove with a good pass and improved, moving up to the 13th spot. King shut off after the burnout, not sure why.
Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.325/205.77, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.066/268.61, Was #15
Right Lane: Buddy Hull Runs 4.573/197.59, Now #18; Best prior run: 4.177/297.15, Was #18
Green started drifting to the right at the hit. he gets about 500 feet out, gets close to the centerline, then has to back off of the throttle. Hull had a cylinder out and backed off of the throttle about 600 feet out.
Left Lane: Dave Richards Runs 3.991/314.05, Now #13; Best prior run: 4.045/310.07, Was #14
Right Lane: Daniel Wilkerson Runs 3.871/327.68, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.965/324.37, Was #11
Richards goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the season and he moves up to the 13th spot. Wilkerson goes down the groove with the quickest pass of his career and he moves up to the top spot for now.
Dave Richards' incremental times: 60ft-0.898 sec., 330ft-2.286, 660ft-3.220/276.67 mph.
Daniel Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.136/288.87 mph.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.878/325.90, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.987/321.96, Was #12
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.913/326.44, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.957/327.53, Was #11
Pedregon goes down the groove with a good pass and he moves up to the second spot for now. Todd makes his quickest pass of the day and moves up to the ninth spot.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.865 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.133/283.14 mph.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.942/277.67, Now #12; Best prior run: 3.946/321.22, Was #11
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.862/331.44, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.947/320.15, Was #12
Tasca was on a decent pass but started drifting to the right. he gets about 700 feet out and has to back off of the throttle. Capps goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the year and he takes the number one spot for now.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.221, 660ft-3.126/286.83 mph.
Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.813/333.09, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.905/330.69, Was #7
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 8.370/75.58, Now #11; Best prior run: 3.915/327.51, Was #11
Prock goes down the groove with the quickest pass of his career, sets the track ET record, and he takes the top spot. DeJoria has traction problems early and gives up on the run.
Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.201, 660ft-3.086/291.02 mph.,
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.823/335.20, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.902/331.83, Was #7
Right Lane: Jack Beckman Runs 3.825/331.49, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.908/327.39, Was #8
A good side-by-side, both down the groove, header flames high and steady all the way through run. hagan gets in the second spot, Beckman into the third spot.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.204, 660ft-3.096/290.00 mph.
Jack Beckman's incremental times: 60ft-0.855 sec., 330ft-2.205, 660ft-3.092/289.09 mph.
Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 3.833/326.37, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.878/324.04, Was #7
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 6.350/105.22, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.889/323.60, Was #8
Alexander goes down the groove with a career best run and he moves up to the fourth spot. Lee gets about 300 feet out, strikes the tires and backs off of the throttle.
Blake Alexander's incremental times: 60ft-0.858 sec., 330ft-2.203, 660ft-3.095/287.98 mph.
