ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - The Snap-on Tools Top Fuel Dragster driven by Doug Herbert is looking forward to setting performance records at the Mopar Parts Nationals at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Noted Crew Chief, Dick LaHaie has not only won at the track as a driver in 1989, but now steers the Cherryville, NC resident with his responsibility of tuning the powerful nitro-burning machine.

The notoriously fast and quick quarter mile of Raceway Park has long been one of the mainstays on the NHRA schedule as one of the premier tracks that produces lightning swift elapsed times.

"Even though our team hasn't jumped up into the top of the points, it's only a matter of time before we get things working perfectly," said the 30 year old Herbert. "Our 60 foot and 330 foot times are as rapid as any team out there. It just seams that lately we have been struck by bad luck when its least expected."

In the opening series of elimination's at 1997's version of the Mopar nationals Herbert defeated five-time Top Fuel champ, Joe Amato. Although he didn't complete his mission of capturing his second NHRA National event victory that time, 1998 will be a completely different story.

"We have a completely different outlook with Dick LaHaie making the tuning decisions this year. His experience, first as a driver and then later turning the wrenches for two more Winston Championships as a crew chief has our team pumped up for performance. Englishtown has a great grip in its racing surface making it one of our better tracks," quipped Herbert.

Herbert is one driver that is determined to establish himself as a front runner on the NHRA tour. He understands that the records speak for themselves but doesn't prove his competitiveness on Raceday.

"All we need are a couple of round wins to get things pointed in the right direction." said determined Herbert. "I have built a great relationship with Snap-on Tools and all of their great people. With their support there isn't any reason that we can't step up and win anytime. I put my full trust in Dick LaHaie, Nick Boninfante and our entire crew. I know that our team will be at the top of the pack before long."

With all the confidence going for him, Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tolls team could discover a better way to the winners circle. "It's as simple as hitting the throttle of our 6000 horsepower nitro rocket and holding on for the ride of our lives. And maybe setting a few personal records for times and speeds along the way."
