COLUMBIA, Md. - The Variform and Velux sponsored entry of the B&B Racing Team and driver Bob Weickgenannt is busy preparing their Nitro Funny Car for an assault on the Mopar Parts Nationals field in Englishtown, NJ. The Mopar Parts Nationals, being held May 14 -17, is the next stop on the 23 event NHRA professional tour.
Coming off their qualifying effort at the Pennzoil Nationals in Richmond, VA,
the team has worked hard to get the car ready for Englishtown. The team
found some answers to recurring problems with dropping cylinders. After
several passes with early shutoffs in Richmond, the final qualifying shot
netted the team a weekend-best elapsed time of 5.36 seconds at 276 miles per
hour. "This car has more in it, the computer tells us it was on runs in
the teens at Richmond" said Weickgenannt. Being the first full season in
Nitro Funny Car for the team, the track at Englishtown will be somewhat of a
new experience. "This has always been a quick track, we look for a
pretty stout field at this race" said Weickgenannt. The team will debut
some new equipment at Englishtown and search for the elusive tenths and
hundredths of a second that separate the field in professional drag racing.
