LAS VEGAS - Notes from final, round 3 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Hunter Jones Runs 6.205/177.21, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.637/258.32, Was #7
5:48 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 69 degrees, relative humidity 19 percent, barometer 30.00 inches, adjusted altitude 3,089 feet.
Jones leaves the line, gets to half track and the car starts moving around. He starts moving toward the wall and backs off of the throttle about 900 feet out.
Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 6.317/164.67, Now #9; Best prior run: 5.871/195.56, Was #9
Right Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 5.530/263.31, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.550/262.13, Was #6
Whiteley started out on a decent run, then starts rattling the tires about 500 feet out. She has to pedal but can't get it to recover and she gives up on the run. Leanders goes down the groove with his quickest pass of the weekend but it isn't enough to move him in the order.
Ulf Leanders' incremental times: 60ft-0.944 sec., 330ft-2.476, 660ft-3.665/208.01 mph, 1,000ft-4.677.
Right Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 5.549/262.79, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.515/266.16, Was #5
Beverett goes down the groove with another good pass. He doesn't improve and stays in the fifth spot.
Chip Beverett's incremental times: 60ft-0.964 sec., 330ft-2.497, 660ft-3.683/208.71 mph, 1,000ft-4.693.
Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 5.466/266.37, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.467/267.59, Was #3
Right Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 9.695/94.20, Now #4; Best prior run: 5.488/265.48, Was #4
Hough goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far. he doesn't improve and stays in the third spot. Bellemeur hits the throttle, starts shaking the tires, then gives up on the run.
Brian Hough's incremental times: 60ft-0.936 sec., 330ft-2.452, 660ft-3.626/211.03 mph, 1,000ft-4.623.
Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 5.477/267.69, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.456/267.85, Was #2
Right Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 5.484/263.26, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.452/265.12, Was #1
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with solid runs. Gordon deosn't improve and stays in the second spot. Marshall doesn't improve but will start from the top spot.
