LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Right Lane: Sean Bellemeur Runs 5.488/265.48, Now #4; Best prior run: 10.729/91.59, Was #9
3:20 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 11 percent, barometer 29.99 inches, adjusted altitude 3,537 feet.
Bellemeur goes down the groove with a solid pass to get in the field in the fourth spot, knocking out Annie Whiteley.
Sean Bellemeur's incremental times: 60ft-0.939 sec., 330ft-2.456, 660ft-3.636/210.21 mph, 1,000ft-4.640.
Left Lane: Annie Whiteley Runs 5.871/195.56, Now #8; Best prior run: 9.584/118.83, Was #9
Right Lane: Hunter Jones Runs 5.674/257.24, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.637/258.32, Was #7
Whiteley gets off of the line this time but has problems late in the run and is out of power early. She gets in the field on the bump spot for now, knocking out Ray martin.
Jones goes down the groove with another decent pass but he doesn't improve and stays in the seventh spot.
Left Lane: Ray Martin Runs 5.738/220.19, Now #8; Best prior run: 6.308/175.05, Was #9
Right Lane: Ulf Leanders Runs 8.656/103.17, Now #6; Best prior run: 5.550/262.13, Was #6
Martin was just bumped out of the qualified field. He was on a good pass but it sounded like he blew the engine just before he went through the lights. He runs quick enough to get back in the field in the bump spot knocking out Whiteley.
Leanders rattles the tires and is off of the throttle early.
Left Lane: Brian Hough Runs 8.784/99.11, Now #3; Best prior run: 5.467/267.59, Was #3
Right Lane: Chip Beverett Runs 5.517/253.52, Now #5; Best prior run: 5.515/266.16, Was #5
Hough gets about 100 feet out, loses traction and backs off of the throttle. Beverett makes another good pass but it sounded like a "pop" came from his engine as he went through the lights.
Chip Beverett's incremental times: 60ft-0.945 sec., 330ft-2.467, 660ft-3.652/209.17 mph, 1,000ft-4.657.
Left Lane: Doug Gordon Runs 12.553/65.69, Now #2; Best prior run: 5.456/267.85, Was #2
Right Lane: Chris Marshall Runs 9.402/92.57, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.452/265.12, Was #1
Gordon leaves the line and goes up in smoke. Marshall gets a little further, loses traction and gives up on the run.
