POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 57th annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Steven Densham No Time, Now #16; Best prior run: 9.399/68.77, Was #16
Right Lane: Terry Haddock No Time, Now #18; No Prior Run
4:05 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 63 degrees, relative humidity 22 percent, barometer 30.01 inches, adjusted altitude 1,693 feet, track temperature 88 degrees.
Cruz Pedregon
is the number one qualifier at 3.840. Steven Densham is on the bump spot at 9.399.
Haddock
is making his first attempt to qualify this weekend and smokes the tires at the hit.
Densham
has a strong leave, but his Mustang starts a steady move towards the center line. Just before the
660 lights it makes a hard move and nails the 660 foot reflectors. It continue on across the track
and just barely avoids hitting the right wall!
Both drivers will lose their times and
Densham will suffer a 10 points penality.
Time out on the track for clean up.
Left Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.866/333.25, Now #2; Best prior run: 7.538/85.87, Was #14
Right Lane: Jason Rupert Runs 4.159/246.84, Now #11; No Prior Run
4:13 p.m. Back to qualifying.
Strong pass for Hight this time. Right on down the track into the #2 position on a safe run to ensure that he is qualified going into tomorrow's final sessions.
Rupert's Mustang had good numbers down low, but shakes the tires loose before the 660 light. He bumps into the field in number 11.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.236, 660ft-3.135/284.99 mph.
Jason Rupert's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.296, 660ft-3.259/267.37 mph.
Left Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 4.360/198.15, Now #15; Best prior run: 4.829/159.44, Was #14
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 3.957/325.30, Now #9; Best prior run: 7.919/66.37, Was #16
Chad Green is on the bump spot at 7.919 and looking for a full pass this time. He makes a stong pass right up to near the top half of the field.
Bode continues to struggle with traction and loses a spot to finish #15 for now.
Bobby Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.230, 660ft-3.238/219.51 mph.
Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.286, 660ft-3.209/279.96 mph.
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.991/318.92, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.250/225.00, Was #14
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 8.096/84.72, Now #16; Best prior run: 4.897/156.43, Was #16
Ron Capps is on the bump spot at 4.897 and will stay there for now, as the tires are loose before the 330 lights.
Lee gets a full pass this time and moves up to the #10 spot on a strong pass.
Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.296, 660ft-3.238/276.80 mph.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.844/323.58, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.199/220.66, Was #14
Arend was supposed to be in the other lane, but is a no show.
Hagan gets his full pass this time and it's a good one to move him 12 spots up the ladder to the current #2 spot. Nice!
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.861 sec., 330ft-2.213, 660ft-3.113/286.62 mph.
Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 3.920/320.89, Now #10; Best prior run: 4.014/315.19, Was #12
Right Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 9.190/89.91, Now #9; Best prior run: 3.919/322.11, Was #9
Campbell runs a career best ET and speed on a clean and stright pass. That moves him up two spots to #10 for now.
Alexander's Mustang has too much tune up for the track and the slicks shake loose about 100 feet out and he has to lift.
Jim Campbell's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.244, 660ft-3.164/276.63 mph.
Left Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.856/322.65, Now #3; Best prior run: 3.906/326.24, Was #7
Right Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.924/329.34, Now #8; Best prior run: 3.917/329.26, Was #8
Just another strong race!
They leave close together and run together to th finish line.
Tasca made a stong pass early, but had the Mustang start to pull hard toward the center line from the 660 light to near the finish line and he may shut it off a little early. It is still good enough to move him four spots up to #3.
Todd runs clean and straight, but will say #8.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.212, 660ft-3.116/285.65 mph.
J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.267, 660ft-3.184/281.13 mph.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.882/333.58, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.894/330.07, Was #6
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 8.031/90.33, Now #7; Best prior run: 3.897/328.38, Was #7
DeJoria is late at the green and shakes the tires loose before the 330 lights.
Wilkerson runs right on down the track and picks up a spot to #5.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.247, 660ft-3.153/285.29 mph.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.849/327.03, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.840/322.58, Was #1
Right Lane: John Force Runs 3.864/333.49, Now #4; Best prior run: 3.893/330.55, Was #6
Two strong passes to wrap up today's Funny Car qualifying.
Force lost a number of positions during the session, but makes a straight and clean pass right back up into the top four.
Pedregon stays number one one on his own strong pass, but is only faster and not quicker his time.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.860 sec., 330ft-2.209, 660ft-3.110/284.03 mph.
John Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.858 sec., 330ft-2.224, 660ft-3.130/284.27 mph.
