LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual NHRA Nevada Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Jeff Arend Runs 9.688/80.60, Now #1
1:25 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 64 degrees, relative humidity 10 percent, barometer 30.24 inches, adjusted altitude 2,386 feet.
Arend's Monte Carlo is up in smoke right
after the 60 foot lights.
Left Lane: Steven Densham Runs 4.040/306.60, Now #1
Right Lane: Jason Rupert No Time, Now #3
Very short burnout for Rupert and then he is shut off before going up to stage. The crew chief says that two of the air lines were mixed up and he could not make the run.
Great straight and clean pass right to the finish line, but things go very bad after that! He has the chutes out and is doing a normal shut down until a couple of hundred feet past the 1320 lights. A bunch of strong flames start to bloom out of the left front wheel well and continues to grow until he can get the car stopped. The Safety Safari is right there and Steve is out of the car and walking around.
Steven Densham's incremental times: 60ft-0.888 sec., 330ft-2.299, 660ft-3.253/268.65 mph.
1:38 p.m. Time out for clean up on the top end.
Right Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 4.759/149.05, Now #2
1:42 p.m. Back to qualifying.
Bode left hard, but had a lot of strange flames from the left side header and he quickly shut the engine off.
Left Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.596/181.96, Now #3
Right Lane: Paul Lee Runs 3.941/330.72, Now #1
Lee leaves had and runs right to the finish line to run a season best speed and takes the current top spot.
Haddock as running hard to near the 1000 foot lights and then the Mustang got very tail happy and he clicks it off early!
Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.887 sec., 330ft-2.297, 660ft-3.380/203.98 mph.
Paul Lee's incremental times: 60ft-0.886 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.199/280.14 mph.
Left Lane: Chad Green Runs 7.930/56.94, Now #6
Right Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 3.972/320.97, Now #2
Green as away first, but the engine quit and chutes come out before the 30 lights.
Dunn is ready happy on the starting line, as Campbell powers on down the track with a near career best ET and a season best speed. He takes the #2 spot for now.
Jim Campbell's incremental times: 60ft-0.894 sec., 330ft-2.274, 660ft-3.212/273.88 mph.
Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 4.926/157.26, Now #7
Right Lane: Cruz Pedregon Runs 3.945/318.77, Now #2
Alexander's Mustang left hard and then started to smoke about 400 feet out and the chutes come out early.
Clean and straight for Pedregon and a nice pass into the current #2 spot.
Cruz Pedregon's incremental times: 60ft-0.891 sec., 330ft-2.268, 660ft-3.189/278.46 mph.
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 3.938/329.26, Now #2
Right Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.922/325.69, Now #1
A great pair of passes.
DeJoria gets a little too close to the wall after the finish line, but keeps most of the shiney on the Supra. She moves right into the current top spot.
Todd was away first by a bunch and runs strong into the #2 spot.
J.R. Todd's incremental times: 60ft-0.881 sec., 330ft-2.267, 660ft-3.195/279.44 mph.
Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.878 sec., 330ft-2.258, 660ft-3.176/281.01 mph.
Left Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 3.932/328.86, Now #3
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 3.865/330.80, Now #1
Tasca once again shows the power to move the top spot up a bunch. Best ET and a 330 MPH pass.
Wilkerson as second off the line and second to the finish line for a strong pass into the #3 spot.
Tim Wilkerson's incremental times: 60ft-0.874 sec., 330ft-2.264, 660ft-3.192/279.67 mph.
Bob Tasca III's incremental times: 60ft-0.871 sec., 330ft-2.237, 660ft-3.135/287.35 mph.
Left Lane: John Force Runs 6.671/107.04, Now #13
Right Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.898/333.25, Now #2
Force gets a small starting line advantage and then shakes the tires off before the 330 foot lights.
Big speed for Hagan on a strong pass right on up to the current #2 spot.
Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.873 sec., 330ft-2.256, 660ft-3.165/284.75 mph.
Left Lane: Ron Capps Runs 3.900/327.51, Now #4
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.857/331.77, Now #1
Hight shows the big power again with a strong pass into the final #1 spot of the session.
Capps chases all the way down the track to slot into the #4 spot for now. Nice clean pass.
Ron Capps' incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.240, 660ft-3.160/281.77 mph.
Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.862 sec., 330ft-2.220, 660ft-3.123/283.73 mph.
