MOHNTON, Pa. -- In support of those affected by the recent tragedies in New York, Washington DC and Pennsylvania the Pro Stock Motorcycle racers at the NHRA Pep Boys Nationals October 4-7th will donate $100 per qualifying run quicker than 7.3 seconds. To show that this is truly a team effort on behalf of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle division, at the conclusion of qualifying the total number of runs quicker than 7.3 seconds will be divided by the number of riders attempting to qualify for this event. The money will be donated to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund on Sunday prior to the start of eliminations on behalf of the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racers and teams. Example, 25 riders will attempt to qualify for this race. 64 runs were quicker than 7.3 seconds (64 x $100 = $6,400, $6400 ÷ 25 = $256, each rider/team would donate $256). 64 is the number that we used if 16 racers in every qualifying session went faster than 7.30.
Besides supporting the Red Cross, this is also a way for the fans to get a
little extra show during qualifying. Every run down the track the
announcers could say, "Well there is another 100 bucks to the fund."
