LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Dragster at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Pacific Division, event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Eric Chesleigh Runs 6.006/197.22, Now #1
2:52 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 80 degrees, relative humidity 14 percent, barometer 29.95 inches, adjusted altitude 3,808 feet.
This is Chesleigh's first race in top Alcohol Dragster.
Chesleigh had a cylinder or two out on the left side as soon as he hit the throttle and struggled all the way through the run.
Left Lane: Mike Quayle Runs 5.446/252.10, Now #1
Right Lane: Taylor Vetter Runs 10.290/90.17, Now #3
Quayle goes down the groove with a career best and he takes the top spot for now.
Vetter rattled the tires at the hit and was off of the throttle before she got 200 feet out.
Left Lane: Johnny Ahten Runs 7.086/131.48, Now #4
Right Lane: Steve Griboski Runs 5.684/247.57, Now #2
Ahten was on a decent pass but was off of the throttle before he got to half track. Griboski had to pedal early in the run but recovered and made a decent pass.
Left Lane: Madison Payne Runs 5.279/274.22, Now #1
Right Lane: Ron Anderson Runs 6.539/187.65, Now #5
Payne goes down the groove with a clean, straight pass and he moves into the top spot for now. Anderson had a cylinder out on the right side all the way through the run and was off of the throttle early.
Madison Payne's incremental times: 60ft-0.940 sec., 330ft-2.409, 660ft-3.518/224.51 mph, 1,000ft-4.465.
Left Lane: Mike Burns Runs 5.443/268.38, Now #3
Right Lane: Dan Mercier Runs 5.402/269.24, Now #2
A good side-by-side, both down the groove with clean, straight passes. Mercier gets in the field in the second spot for now, Burns just behind in third.
Left Lane: Casey Grisel Runs 5.376/265.90, Now #3
Right Lane: Kim Parker Runs 5.332/252.52, Now #2
Parker goes down the groove with a good, clean pass to get in the second spot for now. Grisel made a little move to the right early but got it back in the groove and made a good pass to get in the third spot for now.
Left Lane: Jackie Fricke Runs 5.294/266.69, Now #2
Right Lane: Mitch Myers Runs 19.479/52.71, Now #13
Myers goes up in smoke at the hit and was off of the throttle quickly. Fricke goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the second spot but it looked like she may have put a cylinder out near the end of the run.
Jackie Fricke's incremental times: 60ft-0.926 sec., 330ft-2.396, 660ft-3.504/225.22 mph, 1,000ft-4.461.
Left Lane: Jasmine Salinas Runs 5.404/263.87, Now #7
Right Lane: Joey Severance Runs 5.278/273.83, Now #1
Severance goes down the groove with the quickest pass of the round so far and he moves into the top spot for now. Salinas put a cylinder out early in the run but stayed on the throttle and moved into the seventh spot for now.
Joey Severance's incremental times: 60ft-0.904 sec., 330ft-2.359, 660ft-3.490/219.19 mph, 1,000ft-4.457.
Left Lane: Shawn Cowie Runs 5.225/276.13, Now #1
Right Lane: Karen Stalba Runs 5.271/278.81, Now #2
Another good side-by-side, both down the groove with the quickest passes of the round. Cowie gets there first and takes the top spot to end this session. Stalba gets in just behind in the second spot.
Shawn Cowie's incremental times: 60ft-0.914 sec., 330ft-2.342, 660ft-3.459/221.49 mph, 1,000ft-4.413.
Karen Stalba's incremental times: 60ft-0.960 sec., 330ft-2.434, 660ft-3.541/227.04 mph, 1,000ft-4.472.
