MORRISON, Colo. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Federal-Mogul Funny Car at the NHRA Division 5 Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series Event listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Left Lane: Michael Oliver Runs 6.677/210.57, Now #2
Right Lane: Robert Kanenwisher Runs 6.233/233.36, Now #1

Oliver's car was moving all over his lane. The 20-year-old Monza-bodied Funny Car was quite a handful on this pass.

Left Lane: Steve Griboski Runs 8.148/130.27, Now #4
Right Lane: Lawren Jones Runs 6.183/227.84, Now #1

Griboski lost traction immediately, and never really got it hooked up.

Left Lane: Bernie Harrington Runs 6.103/233.88, Now #1
Right Lane: Vern Moats Runs 6.652/218.41, Now #4

Moats got out of shape just before half track and had to lift for just a moment to get the car straightened out.

Left Lane: Kirk Williams Runs 6.064/237.92, Now #1
Right Lane: Bob Hurley Runs 7.488/186.20, Now #7

Williams was fishtailing a little, early in the run. I'm not sure what happened with Hurley's car, but it didn't sound like it was under full power at any time.

Right Lane: Rex Williams Runs 6.964/204.23, Now #6

Williams is the final car in this round of qualifying. He got out of the groove at half track, the car getting very close to the wall.
