BAYTOWN, Texas - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, 34th annual Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Todd Simpson Runs 5.712/125.16, Now #2
Right Lane: Bobby Bode Runs 4.033/296.37, Now #1
Weather conditions: air temperature 79 degrees, relative humidity 100 percent, barometer 30.16 inches, adjusted altitude 2,049 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.
Simpson making his first pass this season. He starts to shake and drop cylinders before he clicked it off.
Bode is stright down the groove with a nice pass to start the season. Bobby Bode's incremental times: 60ft-0.892 sec., 330ft-2.306, 660ft-3.253/273.27 mph.
Left Lane: Paul Lee Runs 4.133/250.13, Now #3
Right Lane: Chad Green Runs 4.011/323.81, Now #1
Lee was on a good pass, but started to slow on the top end.
Green kept it hitting on all eight with a good clean pass. Chad Green's incremental times: 60ft-0.885 sec., 330ft-2.300, 660ft-3.254/273.11 mph.
Left Lane: Jim Campbell Runs 7.603/83.55, Now #6
Right Lane: Terry Haddock Runs 4.072/312.21, Now #3
Campbell went silent early.
Haddock is straight down the groove and he runs his career best speed. He goes to the number three spot. Terry Haddock's incremental times: 60ft-0.913 sec., 330ft-2.325, 660ft-3.290/267.37 mph.
Left Lane: Blake Alexander Runs 8.300/79.63, Now #8
Right Lane: Robert Hight Runs 3.954/324.05, Now #1
Alexander with tire shake right at the hit and clicked it off.
Hight launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Robert Hight's incremental times: 60ft-0.872 sec., 330ft-2.275, 660ft-3.205/278.06 mph.
Left Lane: Cruz Pedregon No Time, Now #10
Right Lane: Tim Wilkerson Runs 5.437/173.56, Now #6
Pedregon was on a good looking until it started push itself out of the groove and tagged the wall before 1000 feet. Pedregon's run is DQ'ed.
Wilkerson started to shake right at the hit and clicked it off.
Left Lane: Alexis DeJoria Runs 3.912/307.44, Now #1
Right Lane: Ron Capps Runs 7.844/89.36, Now #10
DeJoria launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Alexis DeJoria's incremental times: 60ft-0.864 sec., 330ft-2.232, 660ft-3.151/280.14 mph.
Capps started to shake and clicked it off.
Left Lane: Matt Hagan Runs 3.961/324.12, Now #3
Right Lane: John Force Runs 4.000/275.84, Now #4
Hagan kept it hooked up an hitting on all eight to go to the number three spot. Matt Hagan's incremental times: 60ft-0.875 sec., 330ft-2.259, 660ft-3.205/273.27 mph.
Force started to drop cylinders and it pushed the car toward the centerline before he clicked it off.
Left Lane: J.R. Todd Runs 5.615/124.13, Now #10
Right Lane: Bob Tasca III Runs 6.584/99.38, Now #12
Todd started to lose traction early and clicked it off.
Tasca III started lose traction right at the hit and clicked it off.
