BOISE, Idaho -- Over 500 racers, representing NHRA's Northwest division took to the track for the first day of time trials at the NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals.

A total of 16 member tracks are expected to complete for team honors, with defending champion, and host track, Firebird Raceway hoping to defend their title.

"We are very excited to have the NHRA Summit Racing Series Finals here at Firebird for the first time in 7 years. We look forward to defending our title; it would be especially nice to win it on our home turf," said Firebird Raceway's Scott New.

Saturday morning, racers will once again suit up for a round of time trials. Saturday afternoon, qualified racers will compete in the highly regarded Race of Champions, which will qualify four drivers for the Summit Racing NHRA National E.T Finals, to be held at the Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, November 8-11 in Pomona, Calif. There they will complete for a "winner-takes-all" $5000 purse.

Gates will open tomorrow at 7 a.m. Time trials for all categories will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with eliminations for the Race of Champions set to begin at 1 p.m.
