Top Fuel Qualifying Notes, Session #2

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 36th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 3.696/326.79, Now #1; Best prior run: 5.903/104.28, Was #12

Weather conditions: air temperature 77 degrees, relative humidity 36 percent, barometer 28.77 inches, adjusted altitude 3,005 feet, track temperature 89 degrees.

McMillen launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot with a his quickest and fastest pass of the season. Terry McMillen's incremental times: 60ft-0.833 sec., 330ft-2.101, 660ft-2.965/293.03 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.772/319.14, Now #6; Best prior run: 4.841/144.74, Was #11
Right Lane: Doug Foley Runs 4.154/230.37, Now #11; No Prior Run

Millican is straight down the groove with a good clean pass to move into the top half of the show.

Foley is in his first NHRA Top Fuel race since Englishtown 2011. He was on a good pass, but then appeared to be pushing out a head gasket around half track.

Left Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.778/322.96, Now #7; Best prior run: 4.659/165.13, Was #12
Right Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 14.887/44.61, Now #17; No Prior Run

Palmer with a good looking pass until right in the lights when it appeared to be pushing out a head gasket. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.143, 660ft-3.035/286.80 mph.

Ferre with severe tire shake, it shook so hard the rear tires were off the track. He clicked it off. He will not get in the show.

Right Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.775/314.24, Now #7; Best prior run: 11.466/79.67, Was #16

Prock is straight down the groove and kept it hooked up to get off the bubble and into the top half of the show. Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.840 sec., 330ft-2.129, 660ft-3.013/282.84 mph.

Left Lane: Jim Maroney Runs 4.129/227.00, Now #11; Best prior run: 4.018/266.11, Was #10
Right Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.786/324.44, Now #9; Best prior run: 11.189/66.17, Was #16

Maroney the local racer with Johnny West tuning the car. He appeared to be on a good pass until just past half track when the engine wet silent and he coast on through the lights.

Brown kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to get off the bump spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.166, 660ft-3.045/287.66 mph.

Left Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.749/325.92, Now #6; Best prior run: 3.795/318.62, Was #10
Right Lane: Shawn Langdon Runs 4.153/204.23, Now #14; Best prior run: 5.993/103.35, Was #16

Reed launched hard and kept it hooked up all the way down the track to move into the top half of the show. Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.831 sec., 330ft-2.132, 660ft-3.011/288.83 mph.

Langdon was right with Reed until around half track, but the engine went silent. He still gets off the bump, but only up to the number 14 spot. Shawn Langdon's incremental times: 60ft-0.836 sec., 330ft-2.134, 660ft-3.080/234.04 mph.

Left Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.671/326.48, Now #1; Best prior run: 3.743/316.38, Was #4
Right Lane: Justin Ashley Runs 3.758/315.64, Now #7; Best prior run: 5.039/137.39, Was #16

Torrence launched hard and had the header flames shooting high over the rea wing to go to the number one spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.810 sec., 330ft-2.075, 660ft-2.939/293.28 mph.

Ashley is straight down the groove to get off the bump spot and into the top half of the show. Justin Ashley's incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-3.001/285.29 mph.

Left Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 6.207/98.38, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.740/323.50, Was #4
Right Lane: Leah Pruett Runs 3.680/328.06, Now #2; Best prior run: 4.096/214.96, Was #13

Kalitta started to haze the tires around 200 feet and he clicked it off.

Pruett with a great looking pass, straight down the groove hitting on all eight to the number two spot. Leah Pruett's incremental times: 60ft-0.838 sec., 330ft-2.094, 660ft-2.951/294.88 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.680/331.12, Now #2; Best prior run: 3.707/328.14, Was #4
Right Lane: Billy Torrence Runs 3.724/325.30, Now #5; Best prior run: 3.745/324.36, Was #6

This was a great side-by-side drag race to wrap up day one of qualifying.

Force launched hard and kept it hitting on all eight. She ties Pruett's E.T. and grabs the number two position based on her faster speed. She runs top speed of day one... Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.824 sec., 330ft-2.095, 660ft-2.956/294.82 mph.

Torrence with another good looking pass, hitting on eight to move up the ladder one spot. Billy Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.119, 660ft-2.987/290.01 mph.
