Pro Stock Motorcycle Qualifying Notes, Session #1

LAS VEGAS - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 19th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil listing lane, rider name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Ron Tornow Runs 7.048/182.92, Now #1

12:52 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 9 percent, barometer 28.08 inches, adjusted altitude 2,826 feet, track temperature 94 degrees.

Tornow makes a clean pass to set the early pace.

Left Lane: Eiji Kawakami Runs 7.180/188.20, Now #3
Right Lane: Katie Sullivan Runs 7.049/191.78, Now #2

Kawakami drifts out of the groove, makes a move toward the wall, then gets it back in the groove. Sullivan makes a decent pass but looks like she may have lost an engine as she went through the lights.

There is fluid on the track in Sullivan's lane so we are down for a minute.

Left Lane: Melissa Surber No Time, Now #6
Right Lane: Andie Rawlings Runs 10.117/82.06, Now #4

Surber had problems and did not make a pass. Rawlings got out of the groove early, drifted to the right and got close to the centerline, then backed off of the throttle.

Left Lane: Jianna Salinas Runs 7.075/188.57, Now #4
Right Lane: Kelly Clontz Runs 7.023/190.19, Now #1

Salinas spun a little at the hit and gets in the fourth spot for now. Clontz makes a clean pass and takes the top spot for now.

Left Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.872/193.93, Now #1
Right Lane: Scotty Pollacheck Runs 9.579/92.20, Now #7

Johnson goes down the groove with an impressive pass and takes the top spot for now. Pollacheck's engine bogged between gear changes and he slowed.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 7.050/193.54, Now #6
Right Lane: Ryan Oehler Runs 6.948/195.08, Now #2

Arana was sluggish off the line, a 1.136 sixty foot time, and he gets in the sixth spot for now. Oehler makes a good pass and gets in the second spot but is well behind Johnson.

Left Lane: Angie Smith Runs 6.949/191.38, Now #4
Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.877/193.90, Now #2

Smith makes a clean pass and gets in the fourth spot for now. Sampey makes a good run to get in the second spot for now.

Angelle Sampey's incremental times: 60ft-1.052 sec., 330ft-2.852, 660ft-4.381/159.49 mph, 1,000ft-5.723.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 12.037/67.41, Now #14
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.842/198.64, Now #1

Arana leaves the line, the bike bucks up and down a few times and he backs off of the throttle early. Smith goes down the groove with an impressive pass to take the top spot for now.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.076 sec., 330ft-2.878, 660ft-4.397/161.25 mph, 1,000ft-5.716.

Left Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.880/196.07, Now #4
Right Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.897/194.24, Now #5

A good side-by-side, both right down the groove with good passes. Krawiec gets in the fourth spot for now, Savoie in fifth.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer Runs 6.896/195.22, Now #5
Right Lane: Andrew Hines Runs 6.927/194.74, Now #7

Stoffer makes a clean, straight pass and ges in the fifth spot. Hines was a little sluggish off of the line and fell back.

Karen Stoffer's incremental times: 60ft-1.078 sec., 330ft-2.889, 660ft-4.416/160.12 mph, 1,000ft-5.751.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.115 sec., 330ft-2.915, 660ft-4.445/159.83 mph, 1,000ft-5.780.
