CONCORD, N.C. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 12th annual NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: David Eaton Runs 6.615/205.91/-0.615, Now #1 A/AP Index: 7.23
Right Lane: David Kramer Runs 9.079/163.69/0.609, Now #2 FS/SM Index: 8.47

2:31 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 39 percent, barometer 29.38 inches, adjusted altitude 2,787 feet, track temperature 107 degrees.

Eaton makes a good run out of the box to start the session. Kramer was off the throttle early.

Right Lane: Art Hodges Runs 7.644/178.66/-0.606, Now #2 D/A Index: 8.25

Martino makes a clean pass to get in the third spot for now. Hodges gets in the show in the second spot for now.

Left Lane: Chad Logan Runs 7.241/184.02/-0.359, Now #5 C/DA Index: 7.60
Right Lane: Tony Terry Runs 8.161/147.71/-0.379, Now #4 F/AA Index: 8.54

Logan makes a clean pass but is off the pace. Terry makes a clean run and gets in the fourth spot.

Left Lane: Joe Carnasciale Runs 8.846/151.80/-0.674, Now #1 I/SM Index: 9.52
Right Lane: Christopher Piston Runs 8.175/166.29/-0.545, Now #5 F/DA Index: 8.72

Carnasciale makes an impressive run for the conditions and takes the top spot for now. Piston makes a decent pass and gets in the fifth spot for now.

Left Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 6.602/203.71/-0.668, Now #2 I/D Index: 7.27
Right Lane: Brad Plourd Runs 7.441/146.89/0.501, Now #9 AA/AM Index: 6.94

Massel makes a clean pass and gets in the second spot for now. Plourd loses traction off the line and has to pedal. He still makes a decent pass and gets in the ninth spot for now.

Left Lane: Chip Ippolito Runs 7.690/177.18/-0.510, Now #7 PSTA Index: 8.20
Right Lane: John Frech Runs 8.392/154.28/-0.198, Now #10 F/D Index: 8.59

Ippolito makes a good pass and gets in the show in the seventh spot for now. Frech makes a clean pass but is well off of the pace.

Left Lane: Jim Kimbrough Runs 7.283/182.60/-0.637, Now #3 B/DA Index: 7.92
Right Lane: Van Puckett Runs 8.001/169.96/-0.529, Now #8 F/AA Index: 8.53

Kimbrough makes a good first pass and gets in the third spot for now. Puckett gets in the show in the eighth spot for now.

Right Lane: Terry Smith Runs 6.452/185.64/-0.618, Now #4 A/DA Index: 7.07

Russo goes down the groove with a decent pass to get in the 11th spot for now. Smith makes a good run and gets in the fourth spot for now.

Right Lane: Al Ackerman Runs 8.011/167.93/-0.479, Now #11 F/D Index: 8.49

Two decent passes but both are off the pace of the leaders.

Right Lane: Randy Daniels Runs 8.512/160.58/-0.548, Now #8 E/SM Index: 9.06

Daniels spins the tires off the line and it hurst his ET. Rampy is off the throttle early.

Left Lane: Frank Aragona Runs 7.383/179.35/-0.707, Now #1 J/AA Index: 8.09
Right Lane: Elio Mannino No Time, Now #22 B/AA Index: 7.62

Mannino has problems off of the line and does not receive a time. Aragona goes right down the groove with an impressive pass and takes the top spot to end this session.
