JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Fuel at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Right Lane: Kyle Wurtzel Runs 3.961/295.40, Now #1

Weather conditions: air temperature 84 degrees, relative humidity 47 percent, barometer 29.13 inches, adjusted altitude 3,323 feet, track temperature 105 degrees.

Wurtzel is making his season debut...he was straight down the groove with a real nice pass.

Left Lane: Luigi Novelli Runs 4.054/249.39, Now #2
Right Lane: Chris Karamesines Runs 4.468/191.38, Now #3

Novelli is making his second appearance on the tour this year.

Novelli was on a good pass until it started dropping cylinders just past half track and he clicked it off.

Karamesines is also making his second appearance on the tour this season.

Karamesines started mixing up cylinder early and clicked it off.

Right Lane: Pat Dakin Runs 3.836/320.05, Now #1

Dakin is his third race this season. Dakin launched hard and kept it hooked up to make a nice pass to start the weekend. Pat Dakin's incremental times: 60ft-0.869 sec., 330ft-2.186, 660ft-3.087/282.66 mph.

Left Lane: T.J. Zizzo Runs 6.203/107.60, Now #6
Right Lane: Shawn Reed Runs 3.800/319.67, Now #1

Zizzo is making his second race this year. He was up in smoke early and clicked it off.

Reed is making his third appearance on the tour this year. Reed kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight...Shawn Reed's incremental times: 60ft-0.839 sec., 330ft-2.141, 660ft-3.046/280.84 mph.

Left Lane: Dom Lagana Runs 3.806/322.04, Now #2
Right Lane: Cameron Ferre Runs 3.950/297.48, Now #4

Lagana is making his fourth race this season. He has it hitting on all eight all the way down the track to go to the number two spot. Dom Lagana's incremental times: 60ft-0.850 sec., 330ft-2.172, 660ft-3.063/286.25 mph.

Ferre with a good clean pass to start the weekend.

Left Lane: Jordan Vandergriff Runs 4.203/206.92, Now #8
Right Lane: Scott Palmer Runs 3.962/311.70, Now #6

Vandergriff started to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off.

Palmer was on a good pass, but then started to skate around on the top end and clicked it off a little early. Scott Palmer's incremental times: 60ft-0.882 sec., 330ft-2.250, 660ft-3.185/272.39 mph.

Left Lane: Austin Prock Runs 3.769/321.19, Now #1
Right Lane: Terry McMillen Runs 6.040/110.06, Now #11

Prock launched hard and kept it hooked up to go to the number one spot. Austin Prock's incremental times: 60ft-0.837 sec., 330ft-2.129, 660ft-3.022/285.77 mph.

McMillen was up in smoke right off the starting line and clicked it off.

Left Lane: Richie Crampton Runs 4.622/166.37, Now #12
Right Lane: Mike Salinas Runs 3.769/321.27, Now #1

Crampton starts to haze the tires around half track and clicked it off.

Salinas with a great pass to tie Prock and gets the number one position based on a faster speed of 0.08 mph. Mike Salinas' incremental times: 60ft-0.834 sec., 330ft-2.136, 660ft-3.024/286.44 mph.

Left Lane: Antron Brown Runs 3.784/320.89, Now #4
Right Lane: Leah Pritchett Runs 3.776/327.82, Now #3

this was a great side-by-side drag race.

Brown kept it hooked up all the way down the track to go to the number four spot. Antron Brown's incremental times: 60ft-0.845 sec., 330ft-2.145, 660ft-3.036/285.29 mph. Pritchett is sporting the Okuma colors this weekend. She had the header flames shooting high over the rear wing all the way down the track to go to the number three spot. Leah Pritchett's incremental times: 60ft-0.854 sec., 330ft-2.161, 660ft-3.040/288.27 mph.

Left Lane: Clay Millican Runs 3.774/324.98, Now #4
Right Lane: Doug Kalitta Runs 3.764/322.96, Now #1

Another great side-by-side drag race.

Millican with the White Sox on his car this weekend and he was at the game last night. He was straight down the groove to the number four spot. Clay Millican's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.158, 660ft-3.039/289.32 mph.

Kalitta kept it hooked up and hitting on all eight to go to the number one spot. Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.146, 660ft-3.024/288.89 mph.

Left Lane: Brittany Force Runs 3.819/320.36, Now #10
Right Lane: Steve Torrence Runs 3.757/322.34, Now #1

Force with a good pass to start the weekend. Brittany Force's incremental times: 60ft-0.859 sec., 330ft-2.162, 660ft-3.066/281.13 mph.

Torrence with the header flames shooting high over the rear wing and the big Goodyears hooked all the way down the track to the number one spot. Steve Torrence's incremental times: 60ft-0.842 sec., 330ft-2.135, 660ft-3.017/288.15 mph.
