JOLIET, Ill. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 22nd annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:
Left Lane: David Kramer Runs 8.514/153.84/0.044, Now #1 A/DA Index: 8.47
4:33 p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 83 degrees, relative humidity 50 percent, barometer 29.08 inches, adjusted altitude 3,321 feet, track temperature 117 degrees.
Kramer makes the first pass and is a little off the pace.
Left Lane: Bruno Massel Runs 6.976/166.79/-0.304, Now #2 I/D Index: 7.28
Right Lane: Mike Farrell Runs 7.909/168.35/-0.491, Now #1 B/SR Index: 8.40
Farrell makes a decent pass to take the early pole. Massel is off the throttle a little early.
Left Lane: Gary Coccaro Runs 8.782/150.56/-0.438, Now #2 G/AA Index: 9.22
Right Lane: Terry Ticel Runs 10.668/88.82/2.028, Now #5 G/AA Index: 8.64
Ticel gets out of shape about 400 feet out and is off the throttle early. Coccaro gets in the second spot for now.
Left Lane: Ronnie Bohn Runs 7.751/167.55/-0.609, Now #1 J/DA Index: 8.36
Right Lane: Clint Neff Runs 8.274/162.31/-0.436, Now #4 F/ED Index: 8.71
Bohn makes a good pass for the conditions and takes the top spot for now.

Right Lane: David Billingsley Runs 8.139/165.40/-0.561, Now #2 D/EA Index: 8.70
Billingsley makes a clean pass and gets in the second spot for now. Schmiedl is a little off the pace.

Puckett makes a good pass and gets in the third spot for now.

Smith breaks on the line and does not make a pass. Doll makes a decent pass and gets in the sixth spot for now.

Right Lane: Tony Pontillo Runs 6.871/193.38/-0.509, Now #10 B/DA Index: 7.38
Kamplain goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the fourth spot for now. Pontillo makes a clean pass but is a little off the pace.
Left Lane: Brad Allen Runs 7.111/186.77/-0.289, Now #20 C/ED Index: 7.40
Right Lane: Sean Dodd Runs 8.092/166.07/-0.608, Now #3 C/EA Index: 8.70
Dodd makes a good run for the conditions and gets in the third spot for now. Allen is well off the pace.

Right Lane: Travis Gusso Runs 8.596/158.69/-0.384, Now #18 G/A Index: 8.98
Galbraith is off the throttle early and gets in the 20th spot for now. Gusso is well off the pace.

Right Lane: Tony Mandella Runs 7.958/179.49/-0.522, Now #12 A/SMA Index: 8.48
Rampy goes down the groove with a good pass to get in the sixth spot for now. Mandella makes a clean pass and gets in the 12th spot for now.
Left Lane: David Dupps Runs 11.895/75.95/3.055, Now #28 C/SM Index: 8.84
Right Lane: Frank Aragona Runs 7.386/160.14/-0.504, Now #14 E/DA Index: 7.89
Dupps was sluggish all the way through the run and was off the throttle early. Aragona was off the throttle a little early.
Left Lane: Brian Browell Runs 7.222/183.84/-0.618, Now #2 D/D Index: 7.84
Right Lane: Dick Maris Runs 10.411/94.44/2.881, Now #29 C/DA Index: 7.53
Maris makes a hard move to the right at the hit and has to back off the throttle quickly. Browell goes down the groove with a good pass and gets in the second spot for now.
Left Lane: Matt Harris Runs 7.697/177.93/-0.603, Now #6 D/A Index: 8.30
Right Lane: Randy Jones Runs 8.352/162.68/-0.458, Now #19 C/T Index: 8.81
Jones makes a little move to the left at the hit but stays on the throttle. Harris makes a decent pass and gets in the sixth spot to end this session.
