POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Pro Stock at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:
Left Lane: Joey Grose Runs 6.952/195.05, Now #1
Right Lane: Steve Graham Runs 19.954/42.94, Now #2
Weather conditions: air temperature 66 degrees, relative humidity 62 percent, barometer 28.88 inches, adjusted altitude 2,244 feet, track temperature 85 degrees.
Grose was straight down the groove with a clean pass.
Graham with severe tire shake right at the hit and pushed the clutch back in.
Left Lane: Brian Self Runs 6.574/209.52, Now #1
Right Lane: Shane Tucker Runs 7.268/146.38, Now #3
Self was straight down the groove with a nice pass. Brian Self's incremental times: 60ft-0.983 sec., 330ft-2.756, 660ft-4.233/166.85 mph, 1,000ft-5.504.
Tucker pushed in the clutch early...
Left Lane: Val Smeland Runs 6.766/202.94, Now #3
Right Lane: Deric Kramer Runs 6.642/208.26, Now #2
Smeland started drifting out of the groove and got over close to the wall on the top end.
Kramer was out of the groove over by the centerline, but stayed with it to go to the number two spot. Deric Kramer's incremental times: 60ft-0.982 sec., 330ft-2.775, 660ft-4.272/164.71 mph, 1,000ft-5.559.
