POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Competition Eliminator at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, amount over/under index, and position in order following run, class and class index:

Left Lane: Scott Hedlund No Time, Now #2 A/SM Index: 8.45
Right Lane: Lucky Snyder Runs 8.294/160.58/-0.346, Now #1 F/A Index: 8.64

Weather conditions: air temperature 71 degrees, relative humidity 58 percent, barometer 28.92 inches, adjusted altitude 2,611 feet, track temperature 86 degrees.

Hedlund with problems right at the hit and came to a stop around half track. He was able to get the car to refire and drive off the end of the track.

Snyder with a clean pass to start the weekend

Mettler launched with the wheels up and made a quick move toward the centerline...he reeled it in and stayed with it to go to the number one spot. Tom Mettler's incremental times: 60ft-1.054 sec., 330ft-3.045, 660ft-4.725/146.32 mph, 1,000ft-6.181.

Wilson was right there with him to go to the number two spot. Ross Wilson's incremental times: 60ft-1.201 sec., 330ft-3.379, 660ft-5.231/132.23 mph, 1,000ft-6.838.
