POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Pro Stock Motorcycle at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, 52nd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals listing lane, rider name, elapsed time/top speed this round, position in order following run, best prior elapsed time/speed, and position in order prior to run:
Left Lane: Shawn Gann Runs 6.952/192.06, Now #13; No Prior Run

11:52 a.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 78 degrees, relative humidity 28 percent, barometer 28.97 inches, adjusted altitude 2,808 feet, track temperature 100 degrees.

Savoie is number one at 6.844 and has a one point lead over Krawiec and a three point lead over Hines. Scotty Pollacheck is on the bump spot at 6.919.

Gann will take a single to improve on his prior passes.

Smith isn't as quick as yesterday and takes the #14 spot .

Pollacheck slows a tad too and stays #12.

Right Lane: Lance Bonham Runs 8.322/135.76, Now #16; No Prior Run

Bonham improves, but just sets the bump spot over a slowing Crowley.

Lance Bonham's incremental times: 60ft-1.233 sec., 330ft-3.449, 660ft-5.218/142.32 mph, 1,000ft-6.770.

Bottorff is just a little quicker that his prior best to take the new bump spot. CCourtney isn't quicker than yesterday, but is #15.

Kennedy makes his best pass of the weekend to bump into the #15 spot.

Reed slows.

Left Lane: Karen Stoffer No Time, Now #23; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Steve Johnson Runs 6.913/193.85, Now #6; Best prior run: 6.872/194.49, Was #6

Stoffer's bike won't start and Johnson patiently wait.

He finally is told to stage and makes a clean pass. No improvements and he stays #6.

Left Lane: Jim Underdahl Runs 11.720/70.60, Now #21; No Prior Run
Right Lane: Matt Smith Runs 6.889/193.93, Now #9; No Prior Run

Underdahl is sitting up early.

Smith finally gets into the eighties and misses the top half of the field by just 0.003.

Matt Smith's incremental times: 60ft-1.052 sec., 330ft-2.856, 660ft-4.392/159.04 mph, 1,000ft-5.735.

Left Lane: Freddie Camarena Runs 6.927/195.08, Now #12; Best prior run: 6.916/195.39, Was #11
Right Lane: LE Tonglet Runs 6.890/195.36, Now #10; No Prior Run

Tonglet goes into the eighties too on a strong pass and moves into the current #10 spot.

That pushes Camarena back a spot to 12th.

Freddie Camarena's incremental times: 60ft-1.068 sec., 330ft-2.890, 660ft-4.433/158.91 mph, 1,000ft-5.777.
LE Tonglet's incremental times: 60ft-1.060 sec., 330ft-2.865, 660ft-4.401/159.08 mph, 1,000ft-5.743.

Left Lane: Chip Ellis Runs 6.888/195.48, Now #9; Best prior run: 6.917/193.74, Was #13
Right Lane: Melissa Surber Runs 6.883/192.74, Now #7; Best prior run: 6.879/193.71, Was #7

Two strong passes and Surber runs close to her prior best.

Clean pass for Ellis and be moves into #9.

Chip Ellis' incremental times: 60ft-1.075 sec., 330ft-2.875, 660ft-4.404/159.78 mph, 1,000ft-5.741.
Melissa Surber's incremental times: 60ft-1.046 sec., 330ft-2.846, 660ft-4.378/159.36 mph, 1,000ft-5.723.

Left Lane: Hector Arana Runs 6.889/196.16, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.870/196.82, Was #5
Right Lane: Hector Arana Jr Runs 6.856/195.51, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.857/195.65, Was #2

Quickest pass of the session and Arana Jr. picks up by just 0.001 to stay #2.

Arana is just a little slower.

Right Lane: Angelle Sampey Runs 6.859/195.45, Now #5; Best prior run: 6.861/193.88, Was #4

Two more strong passes and both bikes improve.

Hines runs the second quick time to move up to #3.

That pushes Sampey back to #5 on a clean and straight pass.

Andrew Hines' incremental times: 60ft-1.062 sec., 330ft-2.849, 660ft-4.370/160.52 mph, 1,000ft-5.706.
Angelle Sampey's incremental times: 60ft-1.045 sec., 330ft-2.842, 660ft-4.374/159.59 mph, 1,000ft-5.713.

Left Lane: Jerry Savoie Runs 6.854/196.19, Now #2; Best prior run: 6.844/195.93, Was #1
Right Lane: Eddie Krawiec Runs 6.828/196.70, Now #1; Best prior run: 6.858/195.53, Was #4

The top two point leaders come to the line.

Savoie gets a big starting line advantage, but is just a little slower than yesterday. That gives him two points.

Krawiec unloads on the field and flies on down the track and into the new top spot with three "Little Points".

Savoie and Krawiec are now tied for number one with six little points apiece and Hines still trying to catch up with one session left.

12:15 p.m. Angie Smith is on the bump spot at 6.986.
